So my wife says my approach to scent control is ridiculous. From the de-scenting the inside of my car to de-scenting my bath towel for my prehunt shower. What are some methods no matter how extreme it may seem does everyone use? Just curious and maybe get some ideas.

Unscented soap, get as high as I can in a tree. I do those things but also carry all my gear in a plastic tub with two charcoal cans inside with my clothes. Lots of scent killer.

Also to add, which clothing items do you put on before you leave home and which do you put on in the field?

greetings lol I am so sorry but being a brit, i have to agree with your wife, lol The only scent control i use is i don't wash my stalking jacket. Yes i use a rifle but some shots are in bow range and all are in deer scent range, and i always hunt from the ground, with dog beside me, and she is not going to take kindly to a scent free shower is she. lol If the wind is right you should be able to smoke a cigar and kill deer, and if the wind is wrong all the scent control in the world is not going to help you. Oh and im dropping great big hints as big as nuke bombs at work to try and get to go to the sika rut in october on our southern part of the district, watch this space, lol regards Billy

I wash my hunting cloths in unscented, non UV detergent and place the cloths in a cedar chest. I only wear my hunting cloths when hunting. I am also walk with light cloths so I minimize any sweating. I put on my cloths after I'm in the tree. I prefer to hunt with no or very light wind, so control does matter.
PS: If you goal to get a deer it's easy. Just take your chain saw and cut a tree down in the middle of the woods. Sit back in your chair and they will come to investigate. A tractor ride through the woods also works.

greetings I also hunt in light and no wind, although there is always air movement, in fact i hunt everyday, and if you get it wrong scent control will not make a blind bit of difference your deer will be gone. regards smelly Billy

I have about a 20 min drive to where I hunt. I keep clothes and gear in a tote with leaves and dirt. Perhaps I'll try changing there and light clothes for the hike to my spots.

Oh and im dropping great big hints as big as nuke bombs at work to try and get to go to the sika rut in october on our southern part of the district, watch this space, lol regards Billy I agree with you more than I disagree. I just hedge my bets a little trying to minimize mistakes I know I'll make. Kind of the same things can be said about camouflage, but I still wear camo. I wash my cloths in scent free, UV brightener free soap. (Car wash soap a lot of times.) I hang them out side on the porch most of the hunting season. I use unscented bath soap, Dove. Use the same bar soap, what ever I use, for shampoo. I'd prefer rubber boots but I don't always wear them. I put my tree stand as high as I can stand during gun season and over 20 feet a lot of times in bow season. I don't smoke. No smoking in my vehicle, ever. I don't hunt with people who smoke. I don't wear a set of hunting cloths more than 8 hours, a morning and evening hunt. Sometimes I'll take a shower and put on fresh cloths after one hunt. Most times when I'm on something really exceptionally good I'll take extra good precautions. If all I was doing is whacking does I'd probably wear a flannel shirt and every day blue jeans. If I'm planning on some special trick like laying scent trail or putting out scent lures I'll take more scent precautions, but generally my motto is look like nothing, sound like nothing, smell like nothing. Sit up wind, shut up and sit still.

I'd rather smell like chainsaw gas than Irish Spring.

If I had the space, I would have a seperate washer and dryer just for hunting clothes. Just can't get my wife to buy in to unscented fabric softener. Whites washed in non-uv detergent look dingy.

I just hunt.
I use scent killer spray when I leave the truck. Come November I smoke my hunting clothes once. Deer in freezer every year. Hunt the wind.

I try to keep the sweat down and I hunt between a cow pasture and a hog barn.

I try not to sweat, but I naturally sweat a lot. I wash everything in dead down wind. Store my clothes in a scent lok bag with a carbon filter. Wear rubber boots, and change when I park. I dont put on my final layers till i get in the stand or blind. I hunt the wind as well.
Ive used cover scents in the past with success, ill likely not use any this year, but I may try evercalm.
I have my deer so well patterned this year that i think my spot selection alone will equal success. As of now the wind is doing exactly what it was last year so that is working well for me

I use scent free laundry detergent, body wash, and deodorant. I use the scent eliminator spray a little here and there. I keep a pile of walnuts next to the garage. I stomp on one and smear it on my boots before I hit the woods. I have deer walk my same trail coming to the stand and they don't scent me.

Same way as scrub! Instead I use cedar, but I do like the black walnut cover scent on the boots. I once was hunting in an old beech tree and didn't feel good at all. About 8 feet from the tree was a deer tail. I got down and sat against the tree. I fell asleep and slid down the hill and laid across the trial. It was about 5 hours later a buck stood above me and woke me up snorting and stumping the ground. Since then I have practiced the same scent ritual. The buck never smelled me. I guess he heard my snoring or didn't like the log moving or what ever I was doing.
