This doe has darker patches of fur and a dark strip down her back. Do you see this much?

I'll look, but they are dark in color not white like a piebald.

yes I see deer in the summer with blotchy fur. I think it goes away by hunting season. Not sure if it is from shedding or bugs or what. Some will look real nice and others look like they slept in a gutter for a few nights!

In the process of sheding summer coat I was told on this one. It looks about the same as your deer except for the antlers. This is a older picture that I got on some of the ground I hunt I think it was around 4 years ago. Nobody that I know of tagged this deer. I tried very hard but never laid eyes on him during legal hunting hours. One night he chased a doe at night across the road in front of me was the only time a seen him. I did get several more picts of him after he shed the velvet and his coat was completely normal.

Jon, how often do you check your cameras? I try to once a week but the closer to the season I dont check them till the first hunt then every few days while hunting. It really depends. If I don't have anything going on there, it might be every two weeks or when I go back. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how the big bucks are getting into my plot, and still don't know. I did move another camera yesterday. I'm there often now with squirrel season and working on things. Thursday is dove season, so we'll be going for that too, but may not check the cameras. Weekly in not out of the question for me. Bill, right now, it doesn't seem to matter what I do there or how often. They come every night and most of the night. I bet the surrounding hunters are wondering where all the deer went. However, I will not go to the plot the last two weeks in Sept. We'll hunt the first week in Oct, and then stay away for two more weeks. I can't remember checking my cameras very often during the season, but until last year, I'd never hunted past the first day of firearm. I've seen hunting shows where one guy would check his every day or two just to see how they were moving. Of course, he was very careful not to leave behind his scent. I don't really have a big enough property to check cameras during the season; they are either there or not. Not much I can do about it then. I just sit and watch the leaves fall. Bill, now that I've seen what I have visiting and have seen them in their full glory, I really don't get too excited about checking the cameras as earlier in the year or when I first started hunting. What is fun to see now is if a new buck shows up and how they respond to him. It's fun for me to see who is running with whom. It will be lots of fun to see them when the groups break up to see when they visit. I would certainly think that they will still want to come back to where they've been all year to check out the does. Big Ten might have something to say about it, but I bet they visit. I don't try to mask my scent until the season starts as they don't seem to care until then. I have one doe who will come running when she hears my ATV leave. She knows I've brought some treats.

I hope they all come in during the season. Bill, I've been thinking about that guy who checked his cameras often during the season. That first buck I shot must have been coming at night or for some reason changed his pattern in the last week of Oct. I had not seen him while hunting the first 3 weeks, but I saw him two nights in a row without a shot. The third night I was waiting for him. If I'd had a camera out, I would have known that this buck had changed his movement into a new routine. I still probably won't do it, but I can see why one might.
