After I have my rifles sighted-in to my liking; I take a large plastic coffee creamer jar and fill it with water. I place a piece of red duct tape as a bulls eye, place it out in my back field at around 200-300 yards and shoot it. Good practice and I can be assured that the rifle is sighted in.

I currently shoot a Savage 110 in 30-06 topped with a Vortex Viper 4x16x44 and love it. Out to about 400m I am pretty confident. I took a antelope doe at 390m 2 years ago. Before that I used a Remington 710(predecessor to the 770) in the same caliber. I have, at least temporarily, retired since one of the set screws sheared off in the barrel. Prior to that it shot like a champ. The action was obviously cheap and not smooth but it killed everything I shot at. I will say that in my opinion most rifles are much more capable than most shooter, myself included
