The wet summer seems to have caused the mosquito numbers to increase this year.

With these high dew points and all the rain we've had this Summer, it's like living in the South...

I seriously have at least 50 or more bites on the back of my neck and head. That doesn't include the ones on my arms and hands. It was crazy as I have ever seen.

Walmart has the thermacell for $20, and the big refill kit for the same. The thermacell doesn't work when you are moving, you have to stay put for a few minutes for the cloud barrier to work. Of course, any breeze and its worthless also. Under perfect conditions, they are great. We have about 20 plus cans of bug spray at the ready now. Lol. House, garage, car, trucks, shooting bag, everywhere! Lol. Good luck.

I'm thinking of getting the permetherin concentrate and mixing my own so it's stronger. I have the sawyer but it's only .5% I believe.

Had to go up to Farmersburg today to do some beaver control work for the mine. Got attacked by the huge tiger sceeters, the kind that can whip a crows butt. Probably got Zeeka today. It was so hot it didn't matter what you sprayed on you will sweat it off in a minute or less. Got the last dam tore out and stripped down to my skivies and jumped in a near by pit to cool off. climbing out of the pit walked into a yellow jacket nest and got stung once. I was lucky as there were 100's swarming out of the ground. I sure didn't know this 53 year old fat boy could move so fast. I just hope no body seen me out there running and screaming in my boxers.

The skeeters came out of nowhere about 4 days ago, and they are as bad as I've seen them in early Spring at my place.
It will be interesting to see how bad they are at a clients place, he had me doing mosquito control earlier this year, and that really seemed to help. It was a 4 pronged attack, I stocked fathead minnows in the puddles in the woods, mosquito fish in his ponds, he bought some Mosquito Magnets, I also treated any standing water with BTi and I also sprayed the bushes and shrubs at the edges of the open areas per/post flowers. I will be there tomorrow and will see how things are going.

My husband complains about DEET and how "toxic" it is. I don't care, I coat myself with it before going out. Finding ticks and mosquitoe bites on me is worse than an off chance of some mild skin irritation.

Got to the woods again this afternoon to work on some downed trees. If I wasn't rolling along at a pretty good clip on the quad I was swarmed. either I didn't notice them while I was running the chainsaw, or they stayed away, but as soon as I shut it down I was swarmed again. It didn't take me long to get out of there.

Thermacell, best invention since sliced bread. Don't hit the woods without it
Works so much better than ANY spray

Flamethrower. I need a flamethrower. I went out after work to get the wrap put on my son's ladder stand and get a little work done on the woods. I got the wrap on, needed 4 more hands to beat the skeeters back. I put some logs in the runoff stream bed to allow for much easier ATV crossing, and got the last few small trees dropped. If you were moving, a lot, it wasn't bad. But, as soon as you stopped, they made up for you moving. HOLY CRAP!!!

OH MY GOD. They are terrible here. And I'm not talking about the ones that are 3/16" long, I'm talking about the ones where one lands on each shoulder, you hear a whirring noise and all of a sudden you are 20' in the air!
I sh.. you not, I swatted one that I thought if it bit me I'd need a transfusion. It was easily 3/4" long and I'm NOT talking about a crane fly either.
At my clients place, where we are doing a regular program, they are bearable. His wife doesn't think so, but she has no idea how bad they are here. Here at the house? Forget about going outside and moving at anything slower than a flat out run.
When I go out squirrel hunting Saturday morning not only am I wearing clothes that were doused and dried, I'm spraying 100% DEET on anything thin enough where they can poke through and stab me. It's that nuts.

They do seem to be thick... especially those big Pterodactyl suckers with the striped legs that get you in the daytime. Blood-sucking hellspawn!

I forgot to mention that I survived an hour. Just one short hour.
Yes, they are biting through everything. I even had a couple get through my jeans.
Anybody have a couple million bats for sale, or at least rent?
