Has anyone ever used one of these tree descent things? I got one for Christmas last year but only recently looked at it. I'm going to use it this year , sounds real simple to use but not sure how well they work. Watched the utube video on one being used, looks like a one shot deal. Just wanting feedback on pro's and con's.

I'd never heard of it before; that looks pretty good. $60 - not bad; don't care that it's one use.

I agree, my life is worth 60 bucks I hope. My youngest got it for me last Christmas. I'll give it a try since all I use is a climber. Been stuck up in a tree before due to a climber failure and had to wait 3 hours for a friend to come to the rescue bringing me a climber bottom to get down. I think that's why I got it.

Interesting, but i think I'll stick to a rope and a prussic knot for now. Hands free doesnt sound appealing to me.

Thats kinda what I thought, but since I got it I'll use it. Read the instructions and said it lowers you down from 25 ft. But with vest strap it will be closer to 27-28. Looks like you might bounce off the tree but better than hitting the ground full speed.

So I'm guessing when you aren't hunting this thing stays in a tree and you tie it off in its fully extended position for your next climb? Haven't found a good video of this thing in action.

No, the instructions say you secure it to the tree above your head leaving little slack. Then remove when hunting to keep out of the weather. Sounds easy but I think I'm gonna do a climb just to see if its a pain in the butt to mess with.

Update.....been using this thing, not bad just put it between my vest and tree strap. It's a little awkward to climb with it but better than nothing. Hope I never get to tell you how good it works.

Gotcha I thought it was supposed to be like a lifeline but it sounds like it's just a fancy tie off so if you do fall it just lowers you to the ground slowly.

Thats a nice one thats reuseable. My youngest son is a tower worker so I figured if he bought this one at the time it was probably the best one out there. Maybe not anymore.

Update: there's another thread running about using a saftey harness so its a good time to update this, been using and its gotten better climbing with it up a tree trunk. What I do is tie it off with a nylon strap about 2 ft above my head then hook up to my vest. Its out of the way and easy to hook up. Been going about 25 ft up so I should have enough wire rope to get to the ground. All self contained with no ropes to mess with.
