(from another site ) Bovine Tuberculosis(bTB) was detected in two locations in Franklin county in April 2016. Previously bTB was detected in farmed deer and cattle in 2007,2008 and most recent in Dearborn county in 2011.
As part of clean up protocol the both 2016 locations have been depopulated and in July 2016 these properties and adjacent properties will also be depopulated of wildlife mammals which will be tested for bTB.
IDNR needs sports men's help to collect enough Samples of deer lymph nodes from Franklin and Fayetteville county to determine if we have bTB in our deer herd and if so at what level. bTB affects all deer but is prevelant/detectable in male deer more than two years old.
To get the sampling numbers required IDNR will need between 550 and 2000 deer samples the 550 number is male deer over two years old. Some of the proposals in last nights meeting with large support from those in attendance are...
1 involve taxidermists in collecting samples.
2. Involve processors in collecting samples.
3. Mandatory physical check in all of Franklin and Fayetteville county south of highway 44.
4. News media campaign to educate deer hunters.
5. Mandatory check in in affected area reduced to 24 hours from 48 hours today.
There were other suggestions also but with less support.
The bottom line here is this, IDNR needs and is going to collect samples from 550 bucks of 2 years or more. We as sportsmen can make this happen in the 2016/2017 season or IDNR will collect the addional samples needed by baiting and shooting. Last season 1089 antlered bucks were taken in Franklin county, those deer would be the needed sample size, we just need to educate and then support thi effort
Respectfully, Presient IDHA

Some past history of TB in Indiana... INDIANAPOLIS (18 September 2009)-Indiana continues to make progress in the eradication of bovine tuberculosis (TB) that was first identified in May on a farmed cervid (deer, elk) operation in Franklin County. Since May, the staff of the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) has been working to trace the movement of all animals off of the index site, as well as identify the source of infection. The investigation has led to contacts with more than 40 herds in 16 Indiana counties. Testing of exposed animals has been completed as operations are identified in the trace work. To date, TB-positives have been found only on three sites (one each in Franklin, Wayne and Harrison counties). Each of those has been quarantined. Currently, depopulation activities have been completed on the Franklin and Wayne County farms. goo.gl/pi7gTv

I got this from the IDNR...
"Good Morning Woody,
We are still working through logistics for bTB surveillance efforts this year. We will be asking for help from hunters in a specific area.
As soon as we get the details together (which will hopefully be very soon) we will let you know so you can help us.
You are more than welcome to call Joe or I at anytime"".

Good to see the DNR is working on a plan to announce soon, and taking public input from honest folks.

Be careful of misinformation being posted on a certain FB page about the "2009" farmed cervid(deer/elk) operation in Franklin County that tested positive for Bovine Tuberculosis(bTB).
IN 2009 Captive ELK/Deer herd tested positive, however this was NEVER traced back to cattle.
Here is a email quote from Public Information Director Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH)
"We traced all movements in and out of the herd in 2009, and have done the same for this herd. No connection that we can find."
"That is why we are working to test all the herds in a 3-mi radius, as well as wildlife surveillance to see if we can identify a source or reservoir."
