I am looking to add some safety lines to my trees stands. The kind that run the length of the stand to the ground with a prusik knot.
I know Woody posted an article or a video but I am not sure what type of rope to use? Braided Polypropylene with a working weight load of at least 300 LBS enough? (I'm 230). And the prusik rope I know needs to be a slightly smaller diameter than the main safety line.
I was going to go by 100 feet of the braided rope at the stores like Menard's or Home Depot.
Anyone else made their own and have any tips. Will the bos store rope be OK as long as I get the right weight limit/Breaking Strength

Not sure. I bought mine and don't remember it being cheap. I'm sure a handy guy would make what he'd need, but I wasn't taking the chance.
I don't have mine here, but I'm sure these fellas can help you out.
Some of the sites where they sell them might give enough details to help you make one.

The problem with buying the bulk rope is that the break strength is 300lb but if you fall from a short distance your 230lb isn't 230lb anymore. I also had a problem finding rope that had the proper limit for the prusic knot as I believe it needs to be around half the diameter (been a while since I looked into it) of the main line. I started looking at the arborist sites for their rope as it is much stronger than the box stores stuff and found i could buy the preassembled stuff for about the same price if not less.
Another thing I am curious from others is the life of a life line? I believe they are only rated for 2 years worth of use right?

On the price point I bought several of mine at dunhams with a 20% off coupon and they weren't too bad still about $35. My brother fell last year climbing a tree and he's still paying off the hospital bill. After that I bought lifelines and lineman's belt.

All 30 footers. There is a thread on here somewhere detailing mine and a couple others who did the same thing,

You need certified cloning ropes . When I get on my PC instead of this phone I'll try and find the thread on this subject
