Where have you been Jim? Did you get a turkey this year? No turkey for me or my grandson. Hunted at Winamac FWA. It was loaded with turkeys. Been doing summer. Have grandsons, 16, 11 and 2 here for near on three weeks. One at a time and all at once. It is a revolving door here. Some farming. Put in beans. Deer are pounding them which is good and bad news. And lastly started sporting clays at the IN Gun Club. I am hooked! Did you get a turkey? Enjoy those kids! Yes, I did get one this year; I was so happy. A young high school guide took me out and got me on a bird. I did sign up for some draw hunts, but I really don't care if I get drawn or not. I didn't pick anything for opening weekend. I want to be on my food plot.

We'll do the usual Versailles and Big Oaks. Firstwd, last year they assigned areas again at Versailles. We were hoping to get over where you're talking about but wound up in blue.

I wish they would add another parameter to the choices and allow applicants to select an area within the parks. On day 2 hunters are allowed to migrate to other areas. I'll be in my hole at one point or the other.

I see atterbury isn't even having a hunt this year. It's on the list... Firearm hunts: Camp Atterbury, and Muscatatuck and Big Oaks national wildlife refuges. Archery: Big Oaks NWR.

It wasn't on the list at first but Atterbury was added later.

I think its bs one has to buy a deer license before you can apply for the park hunts. Any chance that will change....or has.( haven't checked for awhile)

Just checked, still have to buy a deer license to even apply. If not drawn, I've wasted $24. No thanks

"Firearm hunts allow any firearm legal to take deer on public land in Indiana. Archery hunts allow any archery equipment legal to take deer in Indiana."
Does this mean you cannot shoot archery at a firearm hunt in these zones? Specifically I'm referring to the state park reduction zones.

never hunted big oaks can anybody tell me the good the bad or the ugly about the place good = huge place qith a chance to get a trophy bad = one way in and out. if you are far northern end it may take 20 to 30 min to get to your area. huge place makes it hard to find your spot. ugly = potential for uxo or abandoned cistern wells!

There's quite a few. I've seen probably close to a dozen. The place is big and there is potential to get a real trophy, but the deer herd isn't as big as it used to be. We ran in to some guys a few years ago who drove all night from Tennessee to hunt the weekend. They had been told the place was loaded with deer and there were big bucks all over. Haven't seen them again. It's getting to be an accomplishment to even see deer on a regular basis in there.

I've hunted many times some years ago and yes there used to be a lot of deer. I think over the last 20 plus years the numbers are a lot lower. I started to hunt it when it was still and active site. I loved watching the jets fly over back then. I stopped hunting the place because I had better private hunting lands.
