Staked out a couple of deer stand locations when season ended. Went back out this morning and trimmed some walking trails and hung some cameras to see how much movement they're getting. Probably check the cameras in a couple months to decided whether or not to hang a stand. Anyone else getting a head start?

I never stop scouting! On the way home from work I have been known to stop & glass deer standing in fields near my hunting area.

Went out this weekend and put out clover while the ground was wet. Set out some corn and Deer cane along with a camera. My place is a swamp right now. needs to dry out.

I have found a new place for one of my stands. I remember thinking that I only had 10ac to hunt and would only need one stand. Now, I seem to find a new spot each season. I like to mix it up and stay away from a stand for a while, and some I plan to only use once or twice a season. It amazes me at how quickly they know that a human has been in the area.

I know it's mostly scent based but I'm going to put a scarecrow in my stand just so they get use to seeing the shape of something sitting up there.

I had a young fella from this site tell me that his grandpa would put out a pair of his socks so they would get use to his smell. If it really worked, I'd walk out naked and leave everything.

I think there is laws against that. And places they take you when caught doing such. Lol

I made a mineral site last wknd and this morning fixed the time stamp on my cam and hung it. I also added some molasses to my mineral site so hopefully I get some good pics. I will be hanging my stand in a few weeks along the pathway leading to where I have my cam.

Thanks, and I sure hope so. I've already started the work and have plans for a lot more to come. There is a lot of enhancement I want to setup at this land I'm hunting. from what I was told by the other hunter I met this place is a gold mine and I plan on supplementing it with various mineral sites, multiple small food plots along trails and deep in the woods along the water. the deer this place holds are already nice, I saw pics. What I'm going to do is going to make this place and the deer even better.

What I'm going to do is going to make this place and the deer even better. If you didn't live so far away, I'd help you put in some small plots, but I really don't think it's necessary. It might be best to just feel out the situation this first season there. My plans for hunting and improving my little access land has evolved enormously over the past 3 years even with the vast information vault here on this site from the beginning. It took me a while to really understand the natural dynamics of my property and the property/hunting pressure around me. My land is so small and with hunters all around me, the deer seem to go nocturnal quickly after opening firearm ...at least they did last season. I had never hunted that far into the season in prior years. When I saw the most deer was when I stayed totally off the land the first 3 weeks of deer season. For the first week I hunted, I saw deer every evening; then not a single one for the next week. My presence was probably the cause. I took the first deer that I saw after the week of nothing. This year, I plan to stay away again, and take opportunities early. Then I will leave and go to my Brownsville property. After this, I'll probably still hunt, but mostly be looking at bare trees and my crops. I have fun doing this too, more fun than honeydos if I were home. If I had a big place of my own, I probably wouldn't hunt one spot for more than two days in a row.

The good thing for me is I have another hunter who has already openly shared some information and I assume will continue to do so. he said he was glad I reached out to him and he seems like a great guy, so that's a plus. I also will share intel with him. I know I'm still getting my feet wet but I've learned a great deal and still have a lot to learn. I'm the competitive type I strive to be the best at everything I do. When I get into something I want to know everything. Why this ,why that how does this work and why does it work the way it does. I want to know every little detail . how to tell this about a deer why does the deer do that. I also think outside of the box. Being innovative about what and what not to do. Always improving. I will learn what I want and need to be great at hunting and I won't stop. I keep an open mind take suggestions maybe use them maybe not. I am absolutely all in and I can't wait for season to be in.

No matter how much we read and hear, the absolute best thing is to observe with out there. I don't think anyone kept any hidden secrets from me here, but for it really to sink in was when it happened to me in the field. It's so cool and fun!
We hear and read stories and it's exciting, but when it happens in the field, it's worth all that many hours, days, weeks and months waiting in the woods. I'm just talking about an experience, not necessarily harvesting.
Watching their actions, patterns and getting busted is almost as fun as bring one home.

Just remember when someone offers you advice (even if you dont like it) take it with a smile even if you think you know everyrhing, and have read everything. Or she. You really need it they won't give it to you. Oh and Read the statutes related to the game you are pursuing. NOT just the hunters guide.

The biggest hassle is removing the impacted ground of a mineral site. I use a container; I can't dig out that much dirt.

The one thing that I am going to do this year which I should of done last year is prep my egress onto the property better. First day of gun season last year I didn't mark it well enough for me to see and on my way in I had one blow at me and then I heard something to my left and right after a lot of tense standing I was able to make out eyes directly to my left and to my right, using my red light on my head lamp. I know they were both deer since I was in the middle and from what I gathered is they were stomping at one another. Kind of neat actually but in the same token I was a little nervous about being in the middle.
One thing that I've wanted to do for so long is to sit and watch and let a couple of them pass, however the last several years they were always on the move and in a hurry to get where they were going. Not like they were spooked, but more like they were chasing down a scent or something.
