well... I imagine that people may be taking less does as a result and that sounds counterproductive to their goal to me

Kentucky went to that years ago (visible antler excluding button) and the world didn't end.

I can tell you that this can be problematic. It can be very difficult to see deer with with short antlers at any distance over 30 yrds especially in low light conditions. Most guys won't risk facing fines for making the mistake of taking a third buck they thought was a doe. This will result in deer being left in the woods.

I killed 2 spike bucks several years ago during MZ season .... 168 yards and 182 yards. After sunset and low light. Really thought they were female deer.
I called the CO and left up to the officers "discretion". He was understanding and all was well ....
Lesson was learned .... wont happen again.

TN has done a lot of changes lately. TN used to have a 3 buck limit, then recently it went to a 2 buck limit. A lot of TN hunters have been wanting changes when it comes to how bucks are managed and perhaps the TWRA is listening.

What is one of the commandments of shooting a gun? Know what your aiming at. If your not sure, let them pass.
It got me in WY a few years back. Shot at what I thought was a doe antelope ,at 250 yards, against a hillside. Head was turned a little and the small horns and black cheek piece blended in with the hill side. Well I was done hunting for bucks because I got mine when I didn't pay close enough attention to what I was aiming at.

You mean "That means it did not count against a hunter's annual "2 buck limit." ? I'm all for it. Just like it was for about a hundred years around here. One with a gun and one with a bow and arrow. I got no problem with it and never have. Other than that I don't much care what TN does and I don't see any reason it should affect Indiana regardless what fool thing some other state does.
