How times have changed. Rarely see a nice wood stocked gun anymore. I've got some plastic stuff, but won't buy any more of it, fond of pretty wood / blued rifles these days.

Mossberg 100 ATR, 30/06. It was a cheapie I got for Christmas probably 10 years ago. I've since added a Boyd's laminate stock, a LimbSaver recoil pad, and a Timney trigger. It wears a Bushnell Legend Ultra 3-9x50. It's actually a pretty nice rifle now.

Yeah, most gunmakers go with synthetic stocks and manganese phosphated barrels due to the greater demand for"all weather" rifles, as well as the fact that production costs are reduced. Not that they pass those savings on to the consumer. Lol!

That's about the best looking Mossberg I've ever seen.
Can't imagine that they won't adjust these regs to allow the .270's, 7mm mags, etc. ?

So where is the best place to look for used guns at? Support your local ma and pa gun shops! Many times it is these places that buy or take trade ins and often times you can find some used choices on their shelves for a solid price.

If I opt to use one it will be this. A Savage Hog Hunter in 308. Older pic. It has a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16 with see through rings because this gun comes from Savage with irons. I'm not crazy about the stock though and would like to swap it out. It is threaded from the factory for suppressor use. That looks like a sweet shooter. That stock reminds me of the Hogue that came on mine from the factory. Is it solid synthetic or rubber overmolded? Factory threading is nice too (mine was), as it saves me the cost of sending it off and paying good money to have it threaded right.

We spent the time to break the barrel in (jeez was it rough!) then did some load development work. I was amazed at how accurate it was. From a bench, using a lead sled, the groups were around 1/4" c-c @ 100 yds.
