It's a big world out there with a lot of interesting things to see and eat don't let simple thinking keep you from enjoying them, then come back home and enjoy a quiet life again. I've thought about this a little more and since I failed to post on my Sunday thread all I can do is respond with this song it puts my thoughts into words a little better maybe youtu.be/rmWhq4cXhcc

I've lived here for 23 years now and love Indy! As with everything in life, there are some disappointments. Overall, I love what Indy offers. However, I totally agree with tomthreetoes...losing the Indy Mile really bites!

However, I totally agree with tomthreetoes...losing the Indy Mile really bites! this is why I love America! We can all be happy about what we want to be happy about and all be disappointed about whatever we prefer to be disappointed in. The only downside to life in Parke county is produce availability in late fall-winter and job pay rates. But it doesn't cost that much to live here either compared to other places. I rent a 3 bedroom on 2 acres and a two car garage for less than 500$ plus it sits on thirty acres and I can walk out my back door at anytime of day and basically do whatever I might want to do without fear of my neighbors calling the law and wait, it gets better! If I want to wait two weeks on mowing my yard no one says a word to me

I'm not a city guy. That said, I've lived in Marion County for most of my adult life. I've lived here for about 25 years. I've visited a high percentage of the country's biggest cities. To me, as far as cities go, it's tough to beat Indy. Especially the downtown area. Really a great set up, all very walkable. And it's getting better all the time. Lots of good stuff happening downtown these days. That said, I still head for the hills every chance I get.

I live in Fishers and technically I work in Indianapolis, but just inside the 465 loop. I very rarely go into actual downtown.
It's nice on the one hand having lots of meal and entertainment options, but most of the time we're just doing things north of the city anyway. My goal is to live on my land, but that's probably not going to happen until retirement or some other big change unfortunately.

Isn't Marion County in its entirety considered Indianapolis? There are other towns like Beech Grove and Speedway in Marion Co.

Inside 465 its Indy In my book. Lol And is to be avoided like the plague! I'm not a people person. I don't like crowds, or concrete, or noise, or the stench of cities.

Mt wife and I reside in rural Laporte county on a small farm property however we travel to Chicago 3-5 times a year to dine in some of the great ethnic restaurants and shop at at the ethnic delis and grocery stores. A tradition for folks living between South Bend and Chicago is to take the south shore train which runs between those cities to Chicago at Christmas time. You exit the train right in downtown Chicago and it's such a exciting feeling standing there in amoung sky scrapers to know that just 2 hours ago you were at home watching wildlife in your back yard and now your standing right in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world. The wife and I will eat a brunch at the Grand Lux restaurant looking out onto the magnificent mile then walk around taking in the sites and sounds of Chicago at Christmas. We board the train with a cup of coffee and something sweet from Macy's and enjoy the 2 hour ride back to our rural life. The crime and shootings you hear and read so much about is almost nonexistent in the downtown area. A lot of guys say they don't need or want to visit the big cities but maybe your wife would like to.

Isn't Marion County in its entirety considered Indianapolis? I think when they consider the city population, they include the surrounds towns inside Marion County.
