The whole thing gave me such a migraine that I went to bed sick as a dog around 8PM. Lol! You need to stop buying a gun untill it passes Great advice! [WAIT] No point spending money on a High powered Deer rifle you can't use in Indiana. Unless it's for out-of-state hunts.

c) A rule adopted under subsection (a) may not authorize more 18 than four (4) annual rifle seasons for hunting deer. The department shall report on the impact of the hunting seasons authorized under this section to the governor and, in an electronic format under IC 5-14-6, the general assembly before February 15, 2020
So.... this looks like they are going to set up a few short seasons? Maybe like 4 separate weekends or something?

iga.in.gov/legislative/2016/bills/house/1231#document-ec736648DIGEST "Hunting and property management. Requires the director of the department of natural resources to establish by rule a deer hunting season in which certain rifles may be used on state owned hunting areas in the southern half of Indiana. Provides that the rule may not authorize more than four annual seasons. Requires the department of natural resources to report on the impact of the hunting seasons. Authorizes the use of a handgun that fires a commercially available bullet of 10 millimeters in diameter to hunt deer." What a joke this has turned into.... Any thing regarding the I.D.N.R.'s actions and rulings are a JOKE!! Sounds like instead of approving the use of H.P.R.; sounds more like they are discouraging their use, by saying where they can & cannot be used. There are too many anti-gun officials & citizens in Indiana, to allow the "general" use of H.P.R. for hunting Deer in Indiana. This is NOT the IDNR. It is our elected officials doing it. The IDNR does not want this to pass , but are forbidden to say anything..

I asked a senator what was going on he said -"I'm not sure what was intended but I don't support the bill. Crazy!"

Here is the link to all of the actual language in HB 1231, as amended by the Senate on February 29. This printing is dated today, March 1, which is the date that the bill goes to Third Reading in the Senate. The Senate proceedings should start around 10:30 AM with several bills to be considered besides HB 1231. If HB 1231 fails today it is dead. If it passes it goes to a conference committee of selected Senators and Representatives. iga.in.gov/legislative/2016/bills/house/1231#document-92de30fb

I understand it's the ELECTED OFFICIALS, calling the "shots" on this issue (?) Sounds like the people need to get out and vote!! If the I.D.N.R. can't make a statement/ruling, on this rifle thing, then what good are they??? They should be the ones calling for new rules on equipment used/changes, in Hunting Deer in Indiana. NOT THE ANTI-HUNTING/GUN OFFICIALS!!!!

I sent the original author an email and told him he needed to get rid of the crazy amendments and go statewide and forget it.

The legislature stepped in and created this disaster.Back in 1987, when I made a suggestion to the I.N.D.R. director (by letter followed-up by phone) concerning Pistol Cartridge rifles becoming legal in Indiana; it fell on uninteresting ears. Fast-forward 20 years later, with the help from this forums' members, we got it through. I also had a very influential friend in Evansville who had friends in both the I.N.D.R. and N.R.C., including the Governor, and I asked my friend if he could pursued this P.C.R. issue with those folks in the Department & N.R.C. In 2007 P.C.R.s' become legal STATE WIDE!! Sadly, my friend passed away two years ago.

It is amazing to me how many people actually want HPR's. I think it is a ridiculous idea. Why would anyone need a HPR to shoot a deer. I personally wont feel safe knowing that I am surrounded by individuals with HPRs. We have too many hunters per square mile in Indiana for hprs. I am in west central Indiana and I don't see using a hprs as a logical decision. We have a declining population in my area and why not make it easier for people to shoot deer. I am completely against this bill. It needs to die ASAP. Nothing good would come from introducing more high powered rifles in Indiana.
