If you think that is expensive, go price what the Colt Pythons are going for now..... To me, when talking about a carry gun, price isn't the biggest thing that I look for. I want a gun to go bang every time I pull the trigger, no matter what. If it costs $50, $500 or $5,000, when your life is on the line you aren't thinking about price. A friend who is heavily into protecting himself and his family will go to a couple of training classes per year. He will shoot 250+ rounds per day thru the gun that he takes. He will not clean the gun for the whole length of the class - even if it's a 3 day class. His theory is that if it fails to fire, it could fail to fire when it's needed the most. He has a few S&W revolvers, S&W M&P pistols and Sig Sauer Pistols. Those have proven to be the most reliable for him - he's also an external safety type of guy. He wants to have an external safety on the pistols. No kidding - the Python has achieved a cult status, it's crazy. I've had 3 Pythons over the years and I'd take a good S&W (ie not a new one) any day of the week over any of them.

I have a Taurus Model 85, my second one. A good little gun for a good price. I know some people don't like Taurus, but I have had several and never had a problem. Not the quality of say, S&W, but decent and way more affordable.
I looked at the latest pocket rockets until I was dizzy. Finally settled on a Beretta Tomcat, and absolutely love it. Even though it is only .32, you can pretty much pick which nostril to send the slug into.

I'm an old revolver guy. I carried S&W K and J frame revolvers for CC for many years. When I read an account of an off duty LEO armed with a J frame, coming up against a nut case armed with a high capacity 9MM semi auto, I finally gave up my model 60 S&W and took to carrying a Colt Defender in .45 ACP. That off duty LEO fought for his life, and was shot 3 times, but survived. Seems I read the story in American Handgunner.

Oh yeah they are sweet - they make it in a 3" too! Seems to me Rural King had them for a pretty good price a while back...

Woody did you ever get your lcp? Finally! It took them almost three weeks to get it to me. They did give me a 10% discount because of the wait. I haven't shot it yet though. I'm waiting for halfway decent weather to take it to the range

That's awesome you got it and good that they gave you a 10% discount LOL.... contrary to some beliefs all of the Newburgh area is not "ritzy". I live in the low rent district out of town. I could shoot in the backyard but I respect the neighbors too much.. I've still got Mr. Kahr to carry until I get used to Mr. LCP....

If that is where I think it is I used to be your close neighbor when I lived at 6500 Concord Drive. I now live on a dead end one street subdivision off outer Sharon..

I have both a M36 S&W and a Ruger LCP. I carry the LCP. The Smith is a great reliable gun but it seems much larger when carrying than the LCP. I have never been comfortable with the S&W as the hammer spur digs in no matter what holster I put it in. Outside the pants is OK but if I can carry there I might as well carry my S&W 66. I should just cut the spur off and be done with it.

Well, I understand what you mean, but, sometimes we can only afford what we can afford. There are good values to be had in guns though and a revolver is one of those options I think, I really don't know much about handguns but I do know that I'd like to carry one so I'm just weighing the options in my price range

There's nothing wrong with that! Just remember that if you are in a situation where it has to be used, it has to function. I would take reliability first, looks second, price third (in your price range). i.e. if a used S&W revolver was available in your price range vs. a new Taurus, I'd go used.

I just HATE that stupid lock.

Nfalls if you were closer we could set something up so you could shoot the LCP and a S&W 36 wheel gun.
