Had a smokeless built by cMc Firearms. He did a great job! I put it in a Choate tactical that I had Napier Hydrographics (a member here) dip in ATACS camo for me. Looks good all put together. With the weather being like it has been, I have not had the opportunity to put the first shot through it yet. But you can bet that it will be up and running for next season. Hoping that it will do well with a .452 copper bullet (Hornady or Barnes) sabotless.

Nice looking gun. Everyone is happy with Cole's work. Saw over on Dougs, you had trouble sizing the monoflex. Are these the .452 or .458? Would be a huge difference obviously due to size. Swingloc die? Lubing? Maybe just a harder bullet.

Swingloc die? Lubing? Maybe just a harder bullet. The .452 muzzleloader version. Everyone says they are harder copper than the Barnes. Didn't really have trouble persay. Just felt like I needed to size in steps rather than push my luck and size all in one pass through the Swinglock. Someone else posted they had trouble and got one stuck in the die.

Sorry, I thought that was your post regarding the stuck bullet. I read thru so fast due to number of sites I look at each day. Lol. Wife thinks I am going goofy checking in every day. Probably right. Lol

Congratulations!!!
Man, that is sweet!
I'm going to have to use my orange peel barrel next year. Maybe they'll get close enough for me to knock them over the head with it.

I like pretty, new and shiny, but my orange peel 54 reminds me of a guy I use to play golf with. This guy bought the cheapest equipment. Maybe his whole set cost $10 at a garage sale. They were always dirty and just the chunks of mud got knocked off.
This guy was an amazing golfer, but he didn't care. He just wanted to go out some and have fun.
I'm hoping my 54 will be just good enough to get the job done. I haven't shot it yet, and a bit afraid to. LOL I don't think it will ever be a safe queen. I might make a cane out of it or use it for a fire poker.

Keeping the Renegade, but my Omega is going to a buddy at work. Your gonna have to dream up a new screen name here then! Lol. BTW, what is your Dougs screen name referring to?

Nice looking Smokeless M/L, Jason. Was thinking of converting my old Remington M-722 in .458 X 2" American to a M/L, but don't think it's possible. What action/rifle did you use for a "Donor" rifle?

And I don't have the motorcycle anymore that is my email address ... don't plan on changing either one. My Doug's screen name comes from the Slufoot Encore conversion I had done last year. It is an Encore 45/70 barrel that someone had MagnaPorted. We weren't sure what that would do to accuracy, but I had him NOT cut off the section that was ported and it shoots great. Thus "ported45". I figure that most people think it is something to do with a 1911. The porting does make tears in the sabot skirt and they get worse as the powder charge goes up, but I have settled on 60 grains H4198 and I could not ask much more from it in the accuracy department. The .40 Barnes 195 grainers touch each other at 100 yards.

It was built on an old stainless Remington 700ML action that someone had taken really good care of. I am pretty sure that it would only take a barrel change (present contour is probably not "Sendero" or heavier as recommended) and Hunter nose bolt head swap... same as converting any Rem centerfire. Probably run you about $600 by the time you got a Swinglock bullet sizing die if you were wanting to shoot sabotless.

Might need a new stock depending on how the existing stock could handle the beefier barrel profile.

Might need a new stock depending on how the existing stock could handle the beefier barrel profile. I agree, as I had quite a bit of modification done to that Remington 722. The existing barrel was already large enough for a .458" bore diameter. The original barrel was a heavy type chambered for the .244 Rem. cartridge. I had a Gunsmith in Michigan convert it to .458 X 2" American; but the bolt face had to be opened-up for the cartridge. THEN, After a few shots the original stock developed a crack due to the recoil, so I found another Stock [By Luck!] but this time I glassed bed the entire rifle giving it strength. Worked out fine! If I were to convert this rifle I would need a new stock, the bolt profile would have to be addressed too. At one time, I was toying with the idea of re-barreling it to a .358 W.S.S.M., but cases are hard to find, so that idea died. On your new smokeless rifle, Jason, do you use 209 shotgun primers that will fit directly in the rifle, like a regular M/L?

The Hunter Nose Bolt Head takes the place of the normal bolt head for the cartridge and has a slot milled in the front that holds the 209 primer, feeds and extracts from the breechplug. Use your finger to pop the spent 209 back out of the slot.
