It has been a heck of a fall for my 6 year old. He took his first deer last season with a muzzleloader and after the cold weather we had last season, I knew I had to get him in the woods earlier this season. I bought him a crossbow for his birthday last January and he shot it all summer. Along with myself and even my wife. We've had a couple of close encounters, but it all came together one morning about 3 weeks into October when a group of does walked past at 20 yards. It was slow until the weekend before firearms opener and I started regularly getting pictures of a buck that had been around all summer. I moved a blind 15 yards from a scrape I was getting pictures on. The first day, after 8 hours in the blind and a missed opportunity at the buck we were after, this doe made her way to the scrape and he put a good shot on her. The second sit in the blind didn't last long. Shortly after daylight I could hear a deer coming off the ridge to our right and caught a glimpse of antlers through the 2" opening I had in the window on that side. He stood up and got ready as the buck stopped at the scrape. I could not have asked for a better shot. The buck went 50 yards and fell over. I still made him wait an hour:) mainly because I know better than to wake momma up a 6:30 in the morning We've worked in foodplots, hung stands, shot bows, checked cameras and everything else you can think of since early summer and he is showing no signs of letting up.

Thank you so much for sharing with us your memory making times together. Believe it or not it gets better as years go by..

Congratulations for having a fine son, good job Dad. I feel sorry for all the kids out there that will never have a Dad that takes the time to introduce their kids to this life changing sport. I've been with 5 kids on their first kill and it NEVER gets old!!

First Tuesday of muzzleloader, after not letting him shoot a doe that we snuck up on over the weekend, he ended our season with another doe. One of 11 that we saw that evening and he shot it with my Savage muzzleloader.
