I quit after ten. It was too cold to take boots off. Lots of shots early in brown co for the first hr but not many after that.

11 where I was in Hendricks county between ~6:40 and 11:00ish. The first shot was ~7:45. Property owner says archery equipment only at this location. I had no archery shots, but would've had a gun shot on a doe.
Went near Clay City in the afternoon - between ~2:00 and 6:00, I only heard 2!

Down in Washington county the first shot was exactly 7:00 am. In the first hour I counted 82 shots! Craziest I've ever heard but this is my first opener down south. Most seemed to come from the Austin Bottoms area. I wondered as greghopper said...ducks, geese, coyotes or something else?! Or maybe just a bunch of hanyacks popping off for whatever reason? What I really don't understand is why I heard so many volleys of 2, 3, or 4 shots in a row!

Just a guess and only a guess; but do you think all these multi shots Hunters are hearing and being done by Folks that are against Deer Hunting?? They own firearms but don't want anyone to harvest a Deer, so they go out and start shooting to scare Deer away from legal Deer Hunters. Just seems very strange to go out to your hunting site and hear 100 shots!!

There were 2 shots in the morning about 30 mins into legal shooting time. There were about 5 shots in the afternoon 3 about 1 hour before legal quitting time and 2 about 10 mins before legal quitting time. I didn't see any deer and 2 of my friends only saw 1 in the afternoon.

There are probably places where antis do such things, but I've never heard of such in SE Indiana where I always hunt. Hunting is a huge part of the culture here. Those types of shenanigans would not be tolerated.

Those types of shenanigans would not be tolerated. Several years ago in Madison county a buddy and I were settled in on a super foggy morning. Like where you can't see 20 ft in front of you...I heard a few typical shots. Then it became more frequent and very close. It never stopped. About 20 min after shooting time I creep over the hill and look into the alfalfa field and about 10 people down there shooting skeet....in the fog. I knew them so walked down there to ask them why they chose opening day of shotgun season to do it and they couldn't even see their targets. They did it knowing they were doing it to mess up someones hunt. They didn't think anyone would approach them :-) That was before hunter harassment law or I would have turned them in. Then I got yelled at by my uncle's daughter in law for shooting so much and she was worried about the safety of their dogs :-) I told her to talk with her neighbors. I was hot. Those guys were lucky it was me and not someone else that may have responded differently.

Those types of shenanigans would not be tolerated. I know one thing, it isn't happening around my Neck-Of-The-Woods. Strangely quiet, just heard two shots this morning. Also, as with yesterday, I saw NO Deer at all. I have read about the anti-hunting crowd: shooting in the air with shotguns firing blanks and blowing car horns, etc.

Heard only two shots this morning. Got only 8 more days left for Modern Rifle season here in my County which is Zone #3. Might be better during our late M/L 9-day season in December.
