on the Just Hunt rifles, When I contacted him he said he was not doing the Hoosier round but a faster wildcat. When I spoke with Ben Syring at Hornady he said there is only one Hoosier die set, the 1.8 length. When I tried to clarify what I was ordering he restated there is only one Hoosier 1.8 ..... I'm glad there was no confusion about the order :-) I hope this information can be of help.

I don't know the details of the "1.6 Hoosier", but if possible, consider getting it reamed to 1.8. I would imagine there's a good deal of performance to be realized.

I know for sure that he has the latest reamer spec which gives an increase in the neck diameter and freebore over the original 1.8" reamer spec. This will allow for use of some commercial brass that may have a slightly thicker wall and the increased COAL that will better suit the Barnes copper bullets. Military brass is still a no go.

Ski Rifles chambered my 358 Hoosier for me. He has the up to date 358 reamer. He did a great job!

One nice thing about your situation is that you have 30 rounds to use while looking over your options. I'd be interested in hearing how it works out and where you go with it. Indiana Wildcats!

I looked at the "Just hunt 1.8" its built on a WSM instead of the 308 brass like a Hoosier. When you compare the cases, the WSM has more capacity. I ended up buying a 358 WSSM for my Encore. Most of the info I found before buying it showed the WSSM was close to the Hoosier as it was.

Most of the info I found before buying it showed the WSSM was close to the Hoosier as it was. The WSSM has a slight edge in velocity over the Hoosier if pushed to the max. Not a big enough edge to make any difference in deciding one over the other as they are practically running neck and neck. Brass availability (and cost of the brass) is the major deciding factor. WSSM brass was not hard to find or overly expensive a few years back, but no so today! New WSSM brass is almost extinct and what is out there is astronomical! The .358 WSM 1.8 is a wildcat that takes more case prep than most of the other Indiana-legal wildcats. The biggest additional step is that the necks HAVE to be turned as they are formed from brass in the body of the parent cartridge and would be far too thick if left unturned.
