Results are up for the military/refuge hunts. I drew Big Oaks on 11/1 as did a buddy of mine. Dad drew the primitive muzzle loader hunt on 10/17-10/18 and firearm hunt 11/21-11-22 @ Big Oaks. How'd you guys do?

Big Oaks on 11/21-22 for firearms and 10/25 for archery. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'll take it!

I just noticed they raised the hunt permit at Big Oaks to $20 this year as well. Didn't want anyone to walk in with the normal $5 fee and fine out it had been changed.

Woooooo0hooooooo!
I finally got drawn for two hunts at Big Oaks, the firearm 11/14 and 15, and the primative 10/17&18.
What does primative mean for this hunt? ...pointy sticks and clubs?

Big Oaks Primitive Muzzleloader Definition: (a) Fire black powder or black powder substitute. (b) Have a traditional, external side-hammer design. (c) Be capable of being loaded only from the muzzle. (d) Have a caliber of at least .45. (e) Be loaded with a bullet at least four hundred forty-thousandths (.440) of an inch diameter. (f) Have an ignition system that is flintlock or caplock. (g) Use a lead round ball or lead conical bullet without plastic or other sabot. (h) Have traditional-style open sights (fixed or adjustable v-notched rear sight, buckhorn rear sight, metallic rear peep sight, and post or blade front sight). (i) Not have telescopic or other sights that incorporate glass or electronics.

Do you know if any kill from this hunt deducts from the state bundle tags or is this like a bonus? The regs are available to print off if you click on your results.. it says you can either use a state license, or buy a military refuge license if you want your deer to be in addition to your state bag limits. I have a Hawken you can borrow for the primitive hunt if you need one. We'll have to meet up on the 14/15 hunt date..

I have to say, I'm a little nervous about this primitive hunt. I'm not sure why I signed up for that one. I'll look at that page, but if it's written like the hunting rules, I bet I have a hard time interpreting the information. Sometimes I just want a yes or no answer. Do you live out that way, or did you get a draw too? Do partners get to hunt too? At Crane they don't. I went out that way with Saltydog once, but I didn't see Big Oaks. It's nice out there.

Jon, Partners hunt and you have to have a partner. Can't go it alone there. Also there is a twenty min safety briefing you have to go through every year.
