Here's my thought, I am putting a ground blind up in a grassy meadow. I would like to put an old round fence post in the ground near the blind with hopes of getting deer to come past it, rub on it and make scrapes by it. Any suggestions?

I hope to do the same. Seems I recall WW discussing that he bought a cedar post for this very thing and had some success with it.

It is a buck magnet. It was about 7 foot tall and I think he drilled holes in it at a downward angles and put tree limbs in the holes and wood screwed them in place fior licking branches.. I'll put one up this year at 20 yards from my stand...

Did this the last two years. Just cut a 3-4" tree x 9-10' or so with plenty of nice licking branches. bury about 3' deep and cut all of the branches up to around 4'. Sweetn the pie by scraping the ground around it. It's truly amazing how well it works with really all deer but I've had several mature bucks respond to this. Even go out of their way to hit it. They rub, scrape, and just seem to want to be around it.

That's what I'm banking on. Just want to try and draw them a little closer to my blind. Would a landscape timber work?

I know old3arrows put one out last year. Don't know if he saw much action on it or not. Maybe he will see this and chime in.

I brought my cousin out to our place last year to hunt and he chopped down a little sapling and stuck it in the middle of the food plot. The doe he shot went right to it and after he shot the doe he had a nice buck make his way towards it but he had already filled his buck tag.
I will be doing the same as described above this year. I am going to cut down an 8-10' tree and put it out in the middle of my plot.

Mark Drury is another one who has really been a big proponent of the tree-coy.

You could buy a tree-coy...sprinkle some fresh bought buck turds around it....then sit a ways away with your back to it and watch it through your "deer view mirror".

This is good. I don't have much sense, but if I had more money than sense, I'd get me one of these. LOL

With my plot turning out bigger than an area that I can shoot with my crossbow, this sounds like an excellent idea! I sure like the way you guys think.
Do they prefer to rub on cedar?
My landowner really likes his trees, so I get nervous just clearing out shooting lanes. I'll ask about a post.

What's a guy (like me) to do if he only hunts wooded ridges? LOL!
