I would say weapon makes a big difference as well. With a gun I've not worried as much about a stationary target, granted anything over a walk I ain't shooting period personally. With a bow, only deer I haven't stopped are the ones nibbling on acorns, plot or distracted by something else (noise, squirrel, other deer).

Always stopped them or waited for them to stop.
Never even taken a walking shot. Can't really say it's intentional, just what I've always done without thinking.

Hey, are you that guy who whistles and the whole herd comes running? I wish, Dennis! LOL!

The TV hunting shows started this whole thing, largely unnecessary and it can spook as well as stop them. If I ever hear "Baaaa!" coming from up overhead in the woods, I'll quickly dive behind a tree or run like crazy so I don't get shot by an arrow

If they are walking quickly, as if on a mission, by all means, a noise to stop them is useful..BUT...before making that noise, you should be at full draw or cocked, locked and ready to rock. DO NOT stop them and then get ready to shoot. Don't ask me how I know.

I don't "baaaa" just a quiet tick type noise from my mouth is all I use typically. I did go "Hey!" one time to stop one that wouldn't listen.

It doesn't work all the time especially if it a buck that is close to you. I've seen the come out of their skin and head for the hills more than once. Then you got no shot.

I'll bet that they copied off of me? BTW - The "BAH" is short. Make it a drawn out BAHHHHHHHH and they will more than likely spook as that is totally un-natural and gives them longer to pin point the source of the sound. I've called bucks back after they had passed me with a BAH and a WAH with my Can Call...

I try to stop them every time. Doesn't always work. I have stopped a deer that was 416 yards away and spooked one at 5 yards.

I've stopped deer and coyote with a "meh", but normally in the woods I'll actually "bark" like a squirrel. Seems to stop them or at least slow them down but they rarely look for the source of the sound.

After sitting in the woods for 3 weeks with no sightings, I yelled, "Praise the Lord." ...on the inside.
