Honest question....if surveys don't mean anything to the DNR, why do they make me do the HIP program and send out surveys asking me about my waterfowl experience was, when I thought the seasons should be, would I hunt this species...etc? I seem to recall filling out a survey 2yrs ago regarding setting new waterfowl season dates and lo and behold they changed them around to make everyone happy. Their surveys which are mailed are more reliable due to the nature of those being hard to manipulate the results.

I recall when the DNR did an online Survey Monkey survey on some deer questions that they were considering. I was in KY turkey hunting when it first came out and by the time I got home it was already common knowledge that all one had to do was clear their cookies and vote as many times as they wanted. I immediately emailed the DNR Director and the D F & W Director and told them what was happening and suggested that they either pull the survey or disregard it. They disregarded it.

HIP is online now and has to be filled out before you purchase your waterfowl license online and is tied to my customer ID. I wonder if something similar could be done for deer licences in order to avoid the skewed results.

I wonder if something similar could be done for deer licences in order to avoid the skewed results. It could be done, but you wouldn't get any info from lifetime licenses owners or landowner license users. It probably wouldn't be cheap and I'm not sure the benifit the DNR would receive from the survey? In reality, the DNR only needs a couple of things. People to buy tags for the revenue and people to shoot deer to keep them at a socially acceptable level. Both they are getting now with the current system. Hunters seem to be the most unhappy with the current population and I'm not sure who is to blame besides...hunters.

You could also have surveys to be filled out with the online check-in and have forms available to fill out at check stations or a phone number to call and participate like HIP does. That pretty much covers all the bases. Lifetime license waterfowl hunters and land owners who hunt waterfowl still have to participate in the HIP survey.
Waterfowl has had this figured out for quite awhile. I'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult for the DNR to apply this to deer harvests if they wanted too. Not all waterfowl surveys are done to benefit the DNR.

It probably wouldn't be cheap and I'm not sure the benifit the DNR would receive from the syrvet I disagree with you on this. I have lifetime and in order to be legal to hunt I have to have my code on my person. It is free just have to call or use the online service. They make it a license requirement no different than a bird stamp to hunt quail. There may be some cost involved but it wouldn't be significant. The feds have already forced the states to develop a system. Just take some modifications and manpower to crunch the numbers. Biologists and managers love to crunch numbers. I do agree with the fact it may be of limited value. Depends on the questions asked and the ability to keep the legislatures out of dnr policymaking. You can have all the right info but if you have bozos not using the info it will be a waste. Finally, it would give a venue for every last legal hunter to feel they have an influence without spending extra efforts or days off work to be involved.

Yup, truth is the only kind of survey that would carry weight before the DNR is one that would be very very costly for a group to do...mailing that many and making them random would be thousands of dollars. Hence why online surveys are relied on by so many...however they shouldn't be relied on for a diagnosis, but they can be used to check a pulse.

Any online survey that can be manipulated will be manipulated. Then it becomes which side has the tech know how and the fastest fingers and the most time on their hands.. Then when one side turns a BOT loose ...hmmm.. who knows what you will get, but it wont be a "pulse". If a survey/poll is not deemed "scientific" the powers to be ignores them..

Woody I guarantee you no one has went to the length to do as you described...otherwise I'd have a lot more responses. It truly subsided about day 3....in the first 48 hours there were over 100 and I got excited but it really has subsided down dramatically. I wasn't saying my poll would be a good pulse, but a larger one, done through a secure site could definitely hold the potential for the DNR to measure a pulse of something. To state clean sweep blanket statement one couldn't to me personally is not right. I wouldn't change a single law or even begin any "paperwork" off of an online survey but they could yield results that may make discussions or a mail survey needed. Trust me I ain't the kind to think my survey or any of the other "group" pumping ones hold weight worthy of even showing the DNR...I am fully aware of this.

Hope you don't think the DNR needs a survey to understand the health or size of the Deer herd!

Hope you don't think the DNR needs a survey to understand the health or size of the Deer herd! They have the best surveys there are: licenses numbers, check-ins and tracking harvests better than any person or group can!

Their last post of attempting to reach out is a lie in my case. I wrote them, they never responded. "Continuelly disrupt the harmony" seems to be the reason....odd as I defended them in some posts, agree in others and really had stayed away from any full fledge disagreement posts other than letting them know professionalism needs to be in mind with every post. Looks like I am banned once again. I did not do any of the things necessary to get banned.....looks like maybe the group as a whole is less than honest about things. Oh well....

With the constant bashing if the DNR and other deer hunting groups, I feel they don't want any connections to anybody that doesn't tow the administration line. Except the IBHA, they seem to like that group and the message they send.

Except the IBHA, they seem to like that group and the message they send. Utterly ticks me off they claim to speak for all hunters. I personally don't even disagree with them on the "deer" stuff but their lack of character, professional and respect for others is extremely disgusting. I personally did zero against their rules....yet were banned minutes after the survey was shared with them...I was even trying hard to find the good about them and saw potebtial. But messages have been ignored, probably because they have zero reasoning behind banning me. Whatever they'll sink their own ship as no one can hold respect for them and their actions will never garner serious discussions.

That is true.
I really am not sure if they understand that the DNR monitors all social media. The powers that be sees the actions of all the groups and act accordingly.
