They use to offer the paper online for FREE but they got greedy and started charging a subscription in order to read the news online.
I think about ticks all the time. I wish I didn't but I do. Maybe it's because I studied too much biology in college but I'm highly aware of the dangers that small bugs create. Last night I had a mosquito inside my computer room and it was so small and fast that I could not get it. It chased me out of the room. I left the computer room and shut the door so that I could get to sleep in another room. Hopefully the thing is dead by now. But when I'm out in the woods or fields I can't help but always be thinking about ticks. I was out in the field one day doing my job and taking water samples from a well. I and my coworker had laid down a blue plastic tarp on the ground to keep the water samples and equipment clean. When I looked around I saw at least ten ticks trying to crawl up this metal post and on the blue tarp. They can detect our breath which contains CO2 Carbon Dioxide and home in on us like a laser beam. They march right straight towards the source of the CO2 every time. I've seen ticks hanging onto the pine needles of a small pine tree next to where I was sitting in my folding chair and fishing. The little pine tree was right behind my chair and I was just far away enough that they could not reach me but they were trying to get as close to me as they could. I was looking at the tree and could see them hanging onto the end of the pine needles and trying to reach me. Another time I saw two dog ticks crawling across some concrete at the launch ramp heading for my feet. I had only been there for about five or ten minutes. I was fly fishing from the launch ramp and using the concrete ramp so that my back cast would not get hung up in the weeds or trees surrounding the launch ramp. These ticks were heading straight for me. I was not expecting to get into the weeds or forest that day so I didn't put on any bug spray. That was a mistake even though I stayed on the concrete. Back in 2012 ticks were very bad. So now I have a big bottle of PERMETHRIN that I'm going to spray on the outside of my clothing. I also will carry some Repel insect repellent with 29 % Deet which I will spray on all my exposed skin. I'll tuck my pant legs inside my socks too.
Read this article and think about how a tick bite can effect the rest of your life. I know several people who have Lyme's Disease right now. Two have had it for years an the other is being treated by a friend of mine who I went to college with at USI. He's a medical doctor now and treats patients for pain. But he is treating the symptoms not the disease of another one of my friends. He should be treating the disease. I've been reading up on Lyme's disease every change I get and some now think that Fibromyalgia has it's root cause in Lyme's Disease. This is what one of my friends have. It's a neurological disease that causes pain though out the body. One can treat the pain and lessen it but that's not going to kill the Lyme's Bacteria that are still living inside the body. Some say that these bacteria have a coating on their cell walls that prevents antibiotics from reaching inside the cells and killing the bacteria. They have a slim covering their cell walls and that has to be penetrated first before antibiotics will work. Which is why even long term antibiotic treatments are ineffective in getting rid of all the bacteria. New research is being done to try to figure out how to kill the bacteria that causes Lyme's Disease. Until then either stay out of the woods or spray yourself with chemicals and check yourself for ticks right away after hunting and fishing in the fields. And if you find a deer tick on you take it off and save it to show the doctor so he/she can give you some antibiotics ASAP. They say that if you treat the tick bite with antibiotics right away it helps cure the disease better. But if you wait and don't treat the disease with antibiotics right away you may develop Lyme's Disease and not be able to get rid of it for the rest of your life.
