Morrison, thank you for taking the time to walk me thru this. Here's a picture of the pistol: It started life out as a Remington XP-100 and was orig. registered (and still is registered) as a pistol. As you can see, it has the center grip factory stock on it. The muzzlebrake is screwed on, not pinned or welded, so it can be removed with a wrench.

As long as it meets the case requirements, it would be legal to hunt deer with as a handgun.
