I think I'll just hang a pair of my sock up by my stand and then they'll get use to the smell of my socks.

I "smoke" my hunting clothes with a Marlboro Light with my morning coffee. If the wind ain't right, and sometimes even when it is, deer will smell the nasty stink of the man. Sent Killer, Sent Lock Clothing is a waste of money in my opinion. A pinch of milk weed fuzz is your best defense for fooling a deers nose

I decided to try it after reading a few others comments here last fall. I typically wash my clothes in scent free detergent and do the scent free shower stuff. I figured the smoke couldn't hurt right?
I used a little fire pit to build a fire and hung them around it and let that fire burn / smolder all night. I never washed my clothes during deer season and never "re-smoked" them. I had more deer closer to me this past season than ever before. The one hunt that sold me on it was the weekend before gun season. I had a little 6 literally walk circles around my stand (following a cat, which is whole other story). The wind was swirling and that deer never even gave me a first thought. I was only about 10 off the ground; and at one point he was straight downwind only 20 yards from me...not a clue I was there. It may have been luck, but I am going to contribute it to the smoke (at least a good part of it).
My friends told me I was crazy, then the opening morning of gun season I had a guy hunting the same woods as me tell me all he could smell was the neighbors wood burning stove...he was sold on the idea as well. It's a natural smell for deer in our area, it seems about every house will have a fireplace or wood-burning heating unit. By the way, I've washed those same clothes twice now during turkey season and they still smell like smoke.

I think I'm on to something. I need a really big sock, like a Christmas stocking to bait bigfoots. Those people on TV are going about it the wrong way.

How often do you reapply the smoke? Is this a daily thing or once a week or one time a season?

Does anyone know of any studies or anything on this topic? I would realy like to look into this more thoroughly before I jump in with both feet. Thanks for all the replies.

I smoke myself and my clothing before each hunt....during archery season I hunt after work 3-4 of the work week days and just head to the woods right from the office. I'm not sure of any studies but you might check out scentsmoker.com There really is no great expense with it....I bought a smoker, small torch and a couple bags of wood chips. Total expense to get started was about $50 and the only recurring cost for me is bags of chips.. It can be done in many other ways at little to no expense.

Hhmmm....just tried to go to scentsmoker.com and the site is no longer there. I wonder if Brock is still selling the bee smokers or if enough guys decided they could get them off of eBay for $10 less and he stopped selling them.
