Took my son to a friend's property Saturday morning for the youth hunt. My friend, his daughter and dad set on the opposite side of the field about 250 yards away so that they could watch. It turned out to be an awesome hunt. This bird was the closest gobbling at daylight and still ~300 yards away in another woods across the field behind us. Due to a hill being between us, I couldn't hear him once he hit the ground and had pretty much forgotten about him until my friend sent me a text that he was coming to keep calling. Next thing I know, he calls me and says that he is running across the field to us. I got everything turned around just in time to see the bird 15 yards away and wanting to cross the ditch that was between him and our decoys. I didn't feel comfortable with my son trying to get a shot off at that range on the excited bird. We let him get out of sight in the bottom of the ditch and moved the chair and gun rest to the front window. Before I could get turned around, the bird had already came out of the ditch, covered the 30 yards to the decoy and had knocked him off the stake. We took our time and let him calm down a little bit. I told my son when he had it on his head to pull the trigger. He did and it was over. TSS is definitely my new favorite shell! Later in the day he got to go mushroom hunting for the first time. After stepping on several, he managed to find a few before his boots did.

Awesome bird, and nice bunch or morels. What county are you in? The turkey came from Spencer and the mushrooms came from Warrick.

Holy moly...congratulations! Nice bird young man! And that is one heck of a batch of shrooms! I found 27 smallies in Washington county Saturday...no where near that many good yellows!
