I really don't either. Not sure what gets the hens in the mood for sweet talking those long bearded gobbling fools!

Watched a bunch strutting around this morning showing off for the hens, a bearded hen just went by the window to the corn field.

I don't have any close enough around my house to hear them. I haven't been to my woods before this morning to look/listen either. But as I patrol the county I see birds around strutting for a little while now. I will probably go out the night before opening day a listen. Hopefully get to hear which ridge/woodlot they are in so I have at least a little idea where to wonder to opening morning.

It's exciting isn't it?
Two years ago was the first that I'd seen one roost. To be able to call that big bird in was all I needed to get hooked.

I just drove to Destin, Florida this week and hardly saw a turkey throughout Indiana, Ky, TN, or Alabama. I think we saw a total of 3 birds and I was scanning constantly. I was shocked!
Made me feel better that I haven't been seeing any in Indiana though.

Anybody know what time they are generally roosting this time of year? Gobbling from the roost in the evenings?

The only time I've ever heard them gobble in the evening from the roost was a shock call from thunder and one from a coyote call. But of course, I haven't been around them much.

I've seen a lot of activity and gobbling/strutting going on the past week..looks like things are getting heated up a little sooner than normal here..lots of gobbling and strutting.

We hunted the Kentucky youth season this past weekend with my sons and the birds were hammering from about 5:55 a.m. till 7:00 a.m. or so. My oldest boy killed a nice longbeard the first day and we should have had one Sunday too but too many hens to compete with. Just my 2 cents...
