Anybody use the 2.3 rage broad head or Hypodermic? I was wondering more about 2.3 Rage and it's penetration.
I've used Rage 2" cut for several deer seasons and had great luck but its time to restock inventory.
Thanks for input.

Anytime the discussion comes up about broadheads you have fanboys of every head out there. The proof though, and it is undeniable, is that any head (even a field tip) can kill a deer swiftly if placement is good. From there one needs to choose a head which they feel is the best of what they desire.
Some want HUGE entrance holes and carnage on the outside. This many feel increases the potential of bloodtrails and increasing the chance of swift death by blood loss. They also like the concept of a less than desirable shot location "reaching" out with it's 2 inch or bigger cutting diameter and clipping more organs. This kind of head will suffer in penetration though by comparison due to more "drag" upon impact as more surface area is contacting bone/flesh/organs and that undeniably slows the arrow down. To many this is worth it, to others not. One could argue what you gain isn't worth what you lose...others feel it is. Bottom line aim true and you'll be fine. **Just wanted this stated in case someone new to hunting or heads reads this thread.
As for the 2.3 rage heads I have a few clients and good friends who love rage and are choosing the hypos over the 2.3 for what it is worth.

It is funny to me how we can be so fixed on a type or brand. I seem to stick with a fixed blade for no other reason than it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I do like gadgets though.

Never was an expandable fan either Jon and now of course a cut on contact is pretty much a necessity for me.

lol I have only ever used fixed blade for the reason that there is now chance at a "mechanical malfunction" I understand that these things are tested 197594095984 times and are almost guaranteed not to fail but to me it's not worth the chance. I personally use the Muzzy MX-4 and they have been nothing short of deadly. (They even slice through your hand like a hot knife through butter ) I have used many different broadhead brands and don't really feel one does a ton more carnage than others but that's just my opinion. Others may feel or have found differently. Like tynimiller stated though good placement will kill any deer with any head.

I have mostly Slick Trick Magnums with some Muzzy Phantom MXs thrown in and still have one Slick Trick Grizz left, so you can tell I am a big fan of the fixed 4 blade heads.
However, with the Hypodermic I think Rage may have just built one that I will have to try once.

Used RAGE's for several year's. Have shot the hypo's but prefer the chisel tip 2" 100 grain head's the best. Have more penetration on bone hit's IMO. My buck last season I hit slightly low shoulder. Head grazed the heart broke right leg at below shoulder joint and stuck in opposite leg bone. Deer stumbled down hill to creek bottom and laid down approx. 100 yard's from where I shot. I snuck up on him and put another arrow into chest cavity. You here of mechanical failure's but have yet to experience one. I've taken close to 20 deer with RAGE head's without incident.

I have shot the 2.3s for a couple years now and I really like them. I shot muzzy before, and penetration wise, the muzzy was better overall, but I've had good luck with penetration with the 2.3s. The only time I have not had a complete pass thru was when I hit the point of the opposite shoulder or elbow (both major bone areas), but the broadhead did go thru it and made an exit hole. I also have a ton of KE though, I shoot a 29.5 draw 70lb, and 420 grain arrows.
