So for the purpose of trapping rabbits they are not considered furbearers, but for running they are. I guess I'm just confused and by no means arguing. I am allowed to chase all year with dogs because they are classified as furbearers for the purpose of running. When I set a trap for them they convert to game animals? Gray area?

There is no statute or administrative rule that considers a rabbit as a furbearer. The Administrative rule 312 IAC 9-2-9 addresses the chasing of a "wild animal" with dogs. Unless it is prohibited by state statute or administrative rule, a person may use dogs to chase a wild animal at any time throughout the year according to this rule. Furbearers have restrictions on when they can be chased. I apologize for any confusion that you had on this topic. Rabbits are considered to be "wild animals" but never as a furbearer. Let me know if you have any other questions.
