I am at my mom in laws. We have a doz geese and a few greenheads begging for it but I just don't have it in me to.shoot at.em.
Drive up from Bedford showed very few geese...even around Indy. Pretty sad to drive dang near length of the state in December and hardly see any birds.

Hundreds of geese and Mallards live full time in my neighborhood on the SE side of Indy. I mean HUNDREDS!

When I lived in anderson and worked in indy I wouldn't even get excited until they 250 plus geese. Some of our better spots held them in the thousands! I sure do miss those days.
One year when I lived on the Wabash north over by Rockville my buddy and I were scouting and came upon an island that had geese by the thousands packed around it. Was pure chaos for three days there. Now where I live in Bedford if I see a flick of geese I feel depressed cause that is a rare event. Monroe holds a few birds but it still isn't the same as the good ol days for me!
Laport county is only a fraction of what it used to be too. I think the feb season has been very successful but at a cost

They were everywhere down here in SE Indiana last year. Seen very few of anything this year. Not seen any on my lake for awhile now. Usually tell when they are getting hit on the river because they fly out to my lake and hang out for the day.

Goose Pond was a bust this morning. Very few ducks. Only thing there were Spec's. They went straight up and out to the river.

Horrible in the SW as well. Bust for us this morning. Only saw 9 birds in flight and only 7 shots thru 10am. Waders developed a good leak today. I think it's a sign to hang it up for the season.

For you folks down south don't look for some major migration from the north because there is nothing coming in any significant numbers.
During that hard freeze that happen around thanksgiving we had a spike in migration however because of the frozen water what ducks showed up stayed out of reach from hunters and then when it thawed they left for parts unknown.
I am not sure but I think we duck hunters here in Indiana may need to rethink our strategies.

Killed 2, lost 2 and hesitated on a few shots that I should have tried.

We saw more goldeneyes today than we saw mallards. Very strange. it has been a bust the last couple hunts for our group. All of the ponds in the area are holding a ton of birds, but they don't seem to venture far from their roost. I'm guessing about a week after the season is closed we will be covered up with ducks while we are goose hunting.
