I had not hunted since November 16th, had some family matters that kept me away, then on December 4th I had a heart attack. I had went in to the hospital late October after a hunt. I had severe chest pain and did not want to chance it.
All test came back negative, even did a heart stress treadmill test, passed with flying colors. Then on November 12th I had some more chest pain after being out in the cold air. Called in, was told I probably have Acid reflux
Then made an appointment with my own doctor.
Skip to December 4th. I was home with my son, had not been feeling well all day, severe stomach pain, took pills for acid reflux, nothing changed. About 6pm my son William told me he was taking me in to the hospital
Found I had 99% blockage in my Left descending anterior artery right close to my heart. They put a stent in and all is better.
Went back Tuesday for my treadmill test and to find out if there was any damage to my heart. I guess God works his miracles because I was told that it was a miracle I have no damage to my heart.
Have to do some heart rehab for a month or so..
Please guys and gals, get a yearly check up, get a EBT scan, watch your diet and keep your cholesterol in check.. I have been on cholesterol med's and don't eat the worst diet but could improve.
Sorry to be long winded, just wanted to pass along so maybe someone else catches it before its too late
Have a Merry Christmas everyone !!!!!!!!

Holy cow john. I'm glad you are alright. We will be praying for you. Sounds like you have a steady grip on the situation now.
What kind of restrictions do you have? Will you be able to get out and do some rabbit hunting?
Great to hear from you brother.
Mike

Sorry to hear about your health, and glad that you are doing great now. How old are you? You certainly don't look overweight or anything from your videos (not that weight is always a contributing factor).
I'll be 47 next month, am about 5'-11", and weigh in the lower 160's. I get winded if I exert myself a lot. Heck, even with a cart, hauling deer out of the woods about killed me this year. LOL!
As for deer, I took a doe with my bow and two does with my muzzleloader. I passed seven or eight really nice 8-pointers this year waiting on a big one, but never saw one.

Yep our diet and exercise is everything ..Good you are going to be ok..I had to also hit the Docs office this Nov. I felt weak and cold with a pounding head at work {lots of stress there} .Went to nurse and my BP was 190 /110 .well now a month and week later I have shed 28 pounds am at a 10 year low and have been put on BP and pre diabetic meds .with a very strict diet .Looks like I am on trac to come off those meds and be at my goal weight with a continued good diet after in the end of Jan 1st of Feb a healthy 185 lbs .also been hitting the gym every other day since then and that will continue as well .FYI I thought I was on the very active side as well but what we do is fooling us we set a lot hours on end and that's not a good thing .
I will be changing jobs at work by the end of Jan as well.
On a side not Oct1-Nov 10 saw the worst deer movement on the home farm and farm up north in 25 years .But it all turned around just in time two days before gun and the week of gun .A standing corn field had the deer about 1/4 mile over the hill I could not see . I have 3 deer down including a decent buck .
I am looking at the possible purchase of some more land up north its good deer land hunted it for 25 years .The owners have both die in the last year .
?Oh and I got moved to 3rd shift to help get running a department that has floundered for a year .That was fun right in the middle of hunting season as well. That's going to change as well it a health killing shift at best .Yep when your older life has its ups and downs for sure especially with health .hunting and out door activity is all fine and stuff but it don't make up for a solid exercise program and eating right and relieving stress in your every day life .

I am 51... scary because my Dad died at 52 from his heart.. although he had heart problems for many years. Not really overweight, could stand to lose some and I am, 9 lbs so far. I am short, but always been stocky/muscular build.. My weight was 206 lbs at 5'5".. I should be at 185-190. I graduated high school at 179 lbs. My cardiologist said its mostly genetics.. sadly.. but medicine will help and so will losing 15 lbs.

Thanks for the prayers !!!
I would love to get back doing cardio and weight training like I used to , but my MS ( multiple sclerosis) is a big hinder. Pre MS I was always around 185 lbs and very fit. Worked my tail off every day in my construction business. Then in 2008 I had to undergo a heavy IV steroid treatment, I ballooned up to 225lbs. I could not stop eating.. I dropped back to 205 range but need to drop more.
Changing my eating, although it wasn't that bad, just portion sizes and NO MORE fast food and Pepsi/sugar drinks.

John I am glad they found it in time. I am recovering from Lung cancer surgery last Tuesday. My lung cancer was found early and all the cancer was removed with clean margins. I only got to hunt the first week of gun season and shot a 6 point and then a doe. I have not hunted since. Just typing this is wearing me out, good luck and keep us posted.

I hunted Howard and Pulaski this year .Was in Cass last year but we lost that land to some leasers .I am going to try to locate a place up that way again .I been thinking about something .Here on our cable in Howard county we have a channel called K-2 it has some home spun shows and oldies and gov stuff .Was thinking about getting with my buddy that was part of Midwest Whitetail and talking to them and see if a Sat or Sunday morning sportsman's show that shows the real side of the hunting trapping and fishing of this state and especially this area up in the Deer and game desert .. I will IM you I may have some info at some point about it .

john - glad to hear you're doing better! I turned 40 this year and did all the preventative maintenance stuff. My cholesterol isn't too bad, but it could be better - I'm within range for both types of cholesterol, but my ratio is off - too many "bad" and not enough "good". My diet is pretty good, and I'm in descent shape (I take the stairs up 13 flights nearly every morning at the office). Unfortunately the family history on both sides of my family is terrible. I saw a nutritionist, and she said to me, "I never thought I would say this - you need to eat less meat and fruits and more carbs." She then went on to say I need more whole grain in my diet. Last week I went and had a "calcium score" done - it's the $49 heart scan being advertised. I scored a "0" on it, which translates to 0% blockage. I highly recommend getting the test done to anyone that has concerns abouth their heart health. A guy I work with had it done on a whim, and ended up having a septuple bypass done as a result of what they found.
