Someone tipped them that I had killed too many bucks. I'm in jail now! Just kidding. After talking to them they told me congrats and shook my hand. They did say they got one guy that got 8 this year.

So, who do you know that knows you killed a few bucks but didn't know they were special, legal hunts?

I think it came from IDNR facebook page. I posted on there that I had killed 3 bucks and didn't really tell the guys how. I was trying to let them figure it out.

I have always thought that, when falsely accused, a person should have the right to confront their accuser. That would stop crap like this.

I don't mind. I was legal and it does raise a red flag when someone says they have killed 3 bucks. I feel like I have to explain myself to everyone I tell.

Good thing they didn't check the freezer because I labeled them all funny last time and used lion, human, alligator, and about any other animal I could think of.

I say props to COs and you, they did their job and you sound like you understood how the misunderstanding would have occurred...and shoot I say props to whomever reported the "suspicion" from the IDNR page. Good deal all the way around.

I have always thought that, when falsely accused, a person should have the right to confront their accuser. That would stop crap like this. Best thing to do is avoid posting any information, personal or otherwise, on these social sites. Other than forums like this one, I don't use Face Book or any other social websites.

There has been more than one poacher busted for bragging on the internet.. I'm so happy that is so true Woody! Anyone doing that deserves to be caught, I know it sucks the OP had to deal with a visit but sounds like he understood why and that is awesome! More hunters need to do what the ones who were suspicious did, by suspecting or knowing illegal baiting, trespassing or poaching is occurring and stating or doing nothing makes you a BIG part of the problem. Great post by OP.

Just goes to show how stupid & dumb Poachers are, to break the law & tell everyone about it online, in these social networks.

I'm surprised the CO's couldn't just look up how you checked them in. You'd think that if they had this ability, they would have done that before showing up at your doorstep...

Sounded like they had the info on the ones I checked in online but not the couple I checked in a the old fashion way including the one checked in at Crane. They asked me where I checked the others in so they probably went back and checked.

I like that the DNR has people that watch social media. I follow a lot of sites from different states and the amount of accusations has to get tiresome for them though. Heck, just the other day I was accused of taking the hunters ed test for my son because there's "no way a five year old can pass a test". Thanks to my fellow hunters for explaining what an apprentice license is.
The amount of misinformation given on those sight because people do not know or understand the regulations is astonishing.
I'm sure they're contacted daily for things like this that mostly doesn't pan out to be anything and just takes time away from other activities.

Had a guy from Indy that hunt's down the road from me stop this summer said he had a CO show up at his house this spring and was given a couple ticket's. Seems he posted a pic of a nice buck he killed last year on facebook and the CO followed up through the check station whom checked the deer in as a button buck instead of a antlered buck. He insist's he told check station antlered buck instead of button but Co told him it was his responsibility to make sure was checked in correctly so in the end he had to pay fine for improperly tagged deer.
