Well, I finally had enough of the cheap plastic stock on my .30/06 and decided to bite the bullet and order a new one in. The rifle is a cheap Mossberg 100 ATR that I recieved as a Christmas gift while in high school, but is light and shoots well enough to suit my needs. I have carried it through the high desert country of Colorado for mule deer, Wyoming sage for antelope, rocky mountains in Wyoming and Montana for whitetail, elk, and bear. I have killed several pigs with it, and more than likely will be using it some next year here in Indiana during deer season in addition to my planned trips out west. I have had my eye on Boyd's stocks for quite a while due to their price point (starting around $100) and the custom options that can be added. I went ahead with their standard walnut stock, upgrading the recoil pad to a Limbsaver, opting for some checkering, and my initials engraved under the bolt throw. Everything went together pretty easily. The trigger guard is molded into the factory stock, so I had to order a separate trigger guard and screw from Mossberg. Also, 1 of the action bolts was too short, but a quick trip to the hardware store fixed that problem. The stock did not come with any markings to indicate safety position, but a quick dab of my daughters red nail polish remedied this. I will have to keep an eye on it though, as I'm not sure how it will hold up over time.

That's a sweet looking stock. My ATR came with a camo stock or I might think about changing it too,I prefer wood.

Not sure what happened with the pics.. looks like they're working now.
I always have liked the more traditional look of a wood stock. It did make it a little heavier, but only like 1/2 pound. That should help with recoil, if anything.

Decided to upgrade my scope as well. I had been using a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40, which served me pretty well and held zero just fine. I've recently scoped a couple other rifles with 50mm scopes though, and decided I really prefer the larger objective, mainly due to the wider field of view. I have a .22 that I may mount the Banner on later. I considered the Vortex Viper line of scopes, as well as the Leupold VX-II, which are both fine products. In the end, though, I stayed with Bushnell, because I have had excellent customer service from them in the past.. when my binos got a loose eyepiece, they replaced them for me with a model that retails for 3x what I paid for mine. After looking at quite a few scopes, I settled on a Legend Ultra 3-9x50. Here's the rifle with the new scope compared to the old one.. Quite a bit of difference in size, even though the magnification is the same. I haven't been able to get it out and re-zero yet, but I did do a side by side comparison off my back porch, and this scope is a significant upgrade over the old one. I also ordered a Timney trigger for it over the weekend.. I'm starting to run out of excuses for my sometimes poor shooting

Nice ! You will like the Timney trigger too.
I've got a bunch of plastic guns, but the last several I've acquired are pretty wood stocked. They just look better and feel better. No more plastic rifles for me.
If you're going to beat the heck out of a rifle or hunt in wet weather all the time, stainless / plastic is the way to go. In most cases it's not necessary.

Nice ! You will like the Timney trigger too. Thanks! I put a Timney in an AR a couple months ago, and realized this one would benefit as well. Should be better, since this one is adjustable and the AR trigger was not. I agree. I also kind of like the look of a worn, scratched, dinged up wood stock (not that I won't try to protect mine ). Let's you know that if a rifle could talk, it has a few stories to tell. I have a couple older rifles I aquired used that I'd love to know the stories behind.

For a young man you sure have lived a lot. I bet you have some stories to tell ...and I'd like to hear them.
A really sweet looking setup for sure. You should be very happy with it.
