Lookin to start an AR build for coyote control. I've heard its cheaper to just build one they way you want rather than buy one. Anything I should know/recommendations before I get started.

Boy that's pretty wide open. Anything in particular you have questions about?

It's cheaper to build one if you plan on a lot of customizing. No sense in buying a factory rifle if you are going to change stocks, grips, handguards, triggers, etc. and toss the factory ones. On the other hand, if you want a bone stock one, you aren't going to save a lot by building.

I'm still researching at this point, but i guess i was just looking for some pointers from guys with experience with AR's. Any recommendations on brands? whether it be upper/unders or whole guns?

Like M4madness said, if you want something application specific, it's usually cheaper (and a lot more fun) to piece it together yourself. If you just want a bare-bones AR, I see Bushmaster Carbon-15's for $550 quite often. Their ORC rifles are usually $600-$700 range. There really is no upper limit with one, depending on what parts you use, optics, etc. I have a 5.56 AR with an RGUNS 24" upper. I've seen some negative things online about RGUNS, but I am satisfied with mine. Shoots the cheap ammo well, topped with a 4-12x50 can hit a grapefruit sized target pretty consistently at 200 yards (and I am admittedly not a great shot with a rifle). That 24" RGUNS upper is very heavy though, so I don't usually take it if I plan to do much walking. I have about $200 in the lower I assembled, and the upper was $550 I believe. Here is a pic of my set-up: Also have a .450 Bushmaster (20" Bushmaster upper) that is pretty slick, although not a good round for coyote hunting. The upper is pretty good quality though, and like with the RGUNS, I can hit that grape-fruit sized target more often than not at 200 yards. I have about $250 in the lower I assembled, and the upper was pretty pricey at $900. One point of advice if you build: Do not order a cheap lower parts kit unless you plan on ditching the trigger assembly that comes with it. I ordered both of mine at the same time from Rock River Arms, and both triggers absolutely suck on my rifles. I'm usually not that picky, but these are terrible. I plan on swapping both out with Timney drop-ins sometime in the near future.

I just assume the trigger assy components in a LPK is not going to get used to start with. My varmint AR has a 20" Barreled action from Delton - not super top end but they have a solid reputation - it does fine. There are a blue million options out there.

I recently put together another lower and I happened upon this from midway. No trigger or guard and no grip/bolt (it should come with the bolt imo). This would save you a little money vs a regular lpk if you plan on using a different trigger, guard and grip. www.midwayusa.com/product/295445/cmmg-ar-15-customizable-lower-receiver-parts-kit?cm_vc=ProductFindingThe stock that I put on the new one came from brownells. They had the stock I was wanting and it included the tube, buffer and spring. They also had midway beat on the price too.
