I shot my first buck with a crossbow this morning. I was sitting deep in a valley below a small pond on our place. It had been a cold and slow morning. All I had seen was a few squirrels and what seemed like 100 chipmunks. I heard something walking from the direction of the pond. I saw a good sized body and antlers through the brush and trees. I stood up when it got behind a group of trees. It was heading my direction but looked a little nervous with all the noise from the stupid chipmunks. It would stop and stare for a minute or two and then take a few more steps. Then I heard deer walking up behind me. The buck decided to angle up the hill and started walking. I followed him in the scope and when he stopped in a clear window I put the 40 yard crosshair on his chest and let it go. I heard a loud pop when the arrow hit. I was afraid I had hit a tree or something. The buck took off running and piled up less than 20 yards away. The muzzy found its mark and did the job. Its not the biggest buck I've ever killed but I am happy with it and happy to be done for the year. I had a shot at a nice wide 8 point a couple of days ago but wasn't comfortable with the shot. I will be taking my son out in gun season and helping him try to get his first deer. I might let him try the crossbow out if he wants to. It has eye gougers off of each base This is where he was standing when I shot him. I have had gun kills that didn't leave this much sign. I am very happy with the Wicked Ridge crossbow.

Nice one. I have a wicked ridge raider. I'm curious. Is that foam you have on it. What's the purpose?

Nice one. I have a wicked ridge raider. I'm curious. Is that foam you have on it. What's the purpose? No, its not foam. Its just thick fabric that I taped over the stock to keep it quieter if I hit it on my tree stand. It looks pretty tacky but it helps. I kept bumping the stock on the rails of my stand.

Thanks guys. When we field dressed it I checked out the heart. I took off the top of it where the main artery connects to it. No wonder it only went 20 yards. I'll let my son shoot my crossbow to make sure he is dialed in with it. I'll see if he wants to go out next week and try to get one. He might want to wait for opening day of gun season. Its a big deal in our family. The wives and kids cook a big breakfast and a dinner for every body. Its just an all day family get together. I checked my trail camera today and I got my buck on it for the first time last night. It must have just came through the area looking for some love. I'm sure that is him. In another picture you can see the points coming off of the bases.
