At what age did you start sitting alone or when did you start letting your kids sit alone? I learned how to hunt on my own when I was 16.

I think I was being dropped off at the blind around 12-13 also. At the same time, I was taking the 4 wheeler to the squirrel woods alone to hunt every chance I could also.
The world has changed a lot in the last 25 years though.

Ther were no deer to speak of when I was young. I killed my first rabbit at age 12 .. All by myself. I took the family shotgun (an old Marlin pump 12 gauge ) over to the old brickyard off of Lodge avenue and did the deed.
At what age to leave a kid alone with any hunting tool? Varies by the kid. Of course I've seen some 12 year olds I would trust more than some mid-20s.
I think Woodmaster was 14?

Never hunted as a kid. Dad didn't hunt but he also taught me alot of other stuf that I'm very thankful for.
It is a different world, but I think its in the way we raise our kids. There are more responsible kids out there and some that are not.
I guess its up to the parent. It seems like every kid has a cellphone and so most are able to be got a hold of if something happens.

I killed my first deer when I was in the 6th grade with my Dad. I think the next season after was when I started heading out alone.

12 in '91. The area I would hunt was always in walking distance of home and never more than a mile walk from a public road.

I was 21 be for I went hunting for real. I followed dad on thanksgiving for rabbits when I was 6/7 but that was it. A friend interduced me to deer hunting back in the mid 70's and it took 4 years before I took my first deer, but back then if u hunted all weekend and saw 3 deer it was a great weekend

I was 11 the first time I hunted deer alone. Funny thing is, it was the first time I had ever deer hunted. My dad dropped me on the road in a place I had never been before and drew a map on a piece of paper on how to get to a blind he had built in a tree. Took me a while, but I found the stand and killed my first deer in that stand that same morning. That was 36 yrs ago and I still hunt that same farm today. I think it all depends on the ability of the child to handle a gun safely and to hunt in a safe manner. I was taught how to shoot and did so regularly by the age of 6.

I started learning how to hunt from my neighbor and venturing out alone when I was 14 I think. We moved out in the country when I was 10 and wasn't long before I'd spend all day gone riding my bike which quickly changed to being gone fishing all day and finally chasing deer and squirrels.
Times have definitely changed a lot.
Becca is 9 and has been hunting for 3-4yrs now and recently been asking to sit by herself. I don't see it happening anytime soon, I'm too overprotective. Just this evening while picking up a double ladder stand I saw some nice single seaters and thought how excited she'd be if I bought 2 of those and set them up just 20yds apart.

At what age did you start sitting alone or when did you start letting your kids sit alone? I learned how to hunt on my own when I was 16. I too was 16 years of age when I started hunting on my own, as I had my Driver's license and could drive to one of my hunting spots. While I learned to hunt Squirrels & Rabbits from my Grandfather; I had to learn to Deer Hunt pretty much on my own. I did pick up some "tips" on hunting Deer from other Hunters, I met while hunting on my Deer Hunting spots though. While I did hunt with my Father, a few times, as he enjoyed hunting Squirrels. Since he was a Doctor, he really had very little time for Hunting, so my Grandfather took me when I was under the age of 16. Been hunting by myself for the past several years.

My son started hunting alone at age 11 and only because he displayed extreme caution with a weapon. By the time he was 13 I would take him duck hunting just to call the birds because he was such a good shot, it was fun to just watch him.
I recall one of the very first trips out with a muzzle loader he was in a tree about 200+ yards away and suddenly I could hear his cap go off but not the charge. A few mins later the same thing and then again and again until about the fifth time when I finally hear the gun go off. I went over to his tree and asked what the heck was going on and he told me that for some reason the primer hole was plugged and the gun would not go off. I asked him why did he keep trying to shoot the gun he responded that he wanted that deer to know the he did in fact have a gun and that it could shoot.
I remember laughing so hard and I also remember that it was on that day that I knew he could handle any type of hunting situation alone.

I didn't start deer hunting until I was 21 or 22,somewhere in there. I started squirrel and rabbit hunting by myself at 14 or 15 though.
