Greetings
I know very little about the rounds you use on deer other than they are short cases.
But it seems to me folks are way more interested on blowing holes right througb deer than knock down effect.
I really don't understand it, the opinion seems to be if I have a hole right through there is blood to track, and yes that is sense, if your rifle has limited knock down power.
But once hpr rifles are allowed things change somewhat, I don't care if my bullet goes through, because if it doesn't I don't need to track anyway, it's Dead where I hit it.
My friend uses a 25/06 with 75grn v max he has shot red deer with that thing, it never exits and everything falls down Dead, this is the fourth barrel on that rifle of his late dad's so the theory has been well tried.
The 308 I use always exits but deer nearly always fall over dead in any case.
The exception to that is if I go to one of my private jobs and I use 110grn v max, they don't exit, I use them there because it is nearer houses, for safety sake.
Shot placement is and always will be the key.
I have another friend who disagrees with me, he wants a hole an no damage, so if anyone else does not agree feel free to put me right, lol
Just my thoughts on bullet behaviour, and what I want from my rifle,
Regards
Billy
