Lets start out on opening day. Around 620 I stood up and got my jacket on and facemask on and no more than 5 minutes later I look up and this guy had snuck up and was feeding acorns 20 yards away. While reaching for my bow he looked up and got uneasy. He was ready to exit and I stopped him with a "meeh." I shot right over top of him and knew it. Got down and found the arrow and it was clean.....no blood and no hair.
Fast forward to last night. I decided to go to a place me and my family know as Hacker Park. Its where we did a lot of camping as a family when I was younger. I love this place. Got in around 5 oclock and was feeling good. I even text my dad and told him I liked where I was and felt good. Around 620 the neighbors about 200 yards away from me and across the road was blaring music and it was louuuuud. I thought to myself, "this could be good for me". Not even 30 seconds passed and I looked up and saw a little bodied deer sneaking through the brush about 70 yards away. 10 Minutes later I see the same buck I missed opening day coming on the small buck's same trail. They were both headed away from me. I stood and grabbed my bow and sure enough the big boy followed his younger buddy back towards me. The small buck came down the creek and was right under me rubbing a small sapling. The big one stayed upwind from me and working over his own rub for a good 2 to 3 minutes. As he kept walking I got ready and drew back. He stopped so I let down. He took a few more steps and stopped and I let the Magnus Stinger fly. He didn't kick but he ran off as if he was hit. Watching him run away I noticed my white fletching sticking out of his left side. He ran and headed down a very steep hill.
Dad met me 20 minutes later and as we looked for blood rain started falling. I then found my arrow and it was covered with good red blood. It was about 60 yards from I shot him. As we tracked the rain got harder and my girlfriend who had tagged along wanted to head back. We took her back, got my dog on a leash and headed back. She was not the least bit interested in getting soak and wet looking for a deer so we backed out. This morning my mom even wanted to help me out so her, my dad, and I headed out to where we had last blood. Grid searched and then some with no luck. We came back for lunch and my younger brother walked in and said he wanted to go look. That gave me some extra push that he wanted to help. He mentioned trying out Piper's nose in fair weather so we headed out with once more with no rain and no darkness. I showed her the arrow and let her lick for a minute or two and she was off. Took me the opposite way of where I thought he went, and I was get discouraged. Never doubt a dogs nose. About 50 yards more of her sniffing and sniffing and she led me right to him piled up against a down log. I was happy to say the least.
Called Dad, who had decided to take a nap and he got the gator for the long haul. we gutted him and he is now hanging in the shop with ice stuffed in him. Couldn't have done it without the dog and good help. The arrow hit good on the entry but must have deflected and shot out his hind right side. Ill comment pictures shortly. Thanks for all the support and tips guys. I really appreciate it!
