I've made two trips up from south carolina to hunt my wife's uncles land in Moscow indiana.he has 780 acres and I have permission to hunt another 100 acres of river bottom on the big flatrock river.the big tract is mostly open fields that are usually cut by the time we get there.this past year we hunted the opener of gun season and the year before we hunted the tail end of bow season the week before gun season.the land is totally different than what I'm used to here in sc.we hunt alot of white oak ridges and swamps.the deer in Indiana seem to be extremely nocturnal, but the deer I have saw had no idea I was above them.this is alot different than what I'm used to as well.the deer here walk around with their head on a swivel and will jump at the slightest noise.I have several questions if anybody has the time to answer.is it best to hunt standing corn or hunt it as soon as it's cut.we where thinking the deer flood the fields as soon as it's cut to eat all the waist that gets spilled.then they move to a different area.the river bottom I have looks to be the best place.ww probably found 20 scrapes and countless fresh rubs.the only deer we saw this past season where about 400 yards away running across the field.from all the sign on the river bottom tracks, trails worn to mud, scrapes and rubs you would think the deer come through every ten minutes.which brings up the nocturnal thing.opening day sounded like a warzone.we where sure the deer would be stirred up and running from wood lot to woodlot.I saw a small 9 and a small 8 the whole week we where there.I've let bigger deer walk around here.are there just not that many deer in this area or was ehd ever a problem.with all the corn and soy beans and river the deer should be in heaven.I want to come back this year but trying to figure out the best time to come.I saw more deer the year I came in bow season.any help would be appreciated sorry for the long read.
