It's either a RATTLERMOCCASINCOPPERHEADEDCOTTONMOUTH or a Black rat snake.

We used to have a black snake that would visit our back yard; always left him alone. Liked having him around, sadly he must have went to snake heaven as he as not been seen in several years.

Believe it or not, I've only seen two Black snakes, on my property in the six years I've lived here in Central Kentucky. I think Hawks, Wild Turkeys, and other critters take a toll on the snake population here.

Looks like a black racer to me. The black rat snakes have a pattern on them.

I agree. Looks like a Black Racer. One way to find out. Stomp your foot at it. If it flips over on its back to play dead its a Black Racer... At least that's what I have heard they do..... Don't hold me to that dag nabbit

It's a Black Ratsnake, very beneficial. The farther north you get they tend to lose their pattern, use to catch them all the time when I was a kid.
