If people are complaining about the pressure on the does now, let the IDNR implement a statewide "earn a buck" reg......Does, doe fawns and buttons will hit the dirt like we've never seen in this state and the public grounds would get hit the worst. The present bonus antler less permit system in conjunction with the recent addition of the late antler less season are great tools to manage herd numbers. So as far as EAB goes.....I don't see the need for it, nor do I see it happening....... A LOT of "phantom does" would die too..

That is some very flawed logic. Flawed or not in your eyes its true and past proven logic that this state and many others used to grow the herds just 25 to 20 years ago before the big reduction attempts..Also The point was that a hunter is wanting to fill the freezer did so with a couple bucks not 4 or 5 doe .So yep its flawed alright it worked perfectly .BTW at our deers hay day we had around 350,000 licensed deer hunters that did not include landowners and LTL holders back in the late 1990s .This state had over 1,000,000 licensed hunters of all types at that time as well .So it obviously worked .Its a fact that can not be argued with .

Saying something is a fact, does not make it a fact and that's a fact.

It is not a fact. It can and has been argued with. you can argue against facts all you like we built the deer herd here with a low doe limit and a two buck rule like it or not that was the plan in the deer building years and it worked flawlessly. The buck herd grew and every buck that was killed was replaced the next fall plus more .Sorry you sour grapes that love the one buck rule do not like that "FACT?" but it is a fact none the less .So live with it guys you just think your grand plan has had some huge effect and its not doing anything but promoting the killing of antlerless deer .All part of the plan .

Now you are attempting to change your story.
First it was entirely the buck kill that mattered now you are including the female kill as well. I could sit around and point out your inconsistencies all day but the truth is you bore me.
Good luck with whatever it is that is wrong with you and have a nice day.

No you just do not get it at all .It is the buck harvest that is watched by Biologists here and in every state to trend deer herds . So what be bored .You have not hunted enough years to know what the building the herd years were like or even the Steps we took with the regs .That stuff would continue to bore you . But then again those who went through the herd growing years and saw the OBR goons push their spawn new what the writing on the wall was .But to grow a herd all the state has to do it take pressure off the doe herd and to retain hunters just open up a second buck to keep the excitement in for hunters everywhere .They knew that long before this generation of slobbering IDIOTS that run the DNR got into their positions .BTW most who are involved in the DNR today had no credentials when it came to running an agency like the DNR that dealt with natural recourses .They were buddies of the current or just past administrations .LOL you guys are truly either clueless to how to grow a strong deer herd and replenish the bucks killed every year or you would get what has been posted here over the years by more than just me .But your just bored and it shows with every post you make swilk. I wonder it deer hunting was so great and if there were big bucks everywhere why hunter numbers continue to fall in this state and are at all time lows ..BTW wait and see how many deer license are sold after this year come next season .It will fall dramatically due to mismanagement .Guaranteed!!!.We will return after the close of next season and the publication of harvest and hunter license sales is published .LOMAO @ those with little foresite and true knowledge on how the deer herd was grown in this state .

Shouldernuke, I get what you're saying (sort of). Don't shoot does, the herd grows. Kind of what happened in Indiana in the 80's and 90's. Then the push for trophy deer came along and QDMA and everyone else said shoot a bunch more does and lower the pressure on the bucks. Indiana did that with the bonus antler less program and the obr. Now...Indiana (and every other mid-western state) wants to reduce the herd to levels similar to what we had in the 1990's and Indiana's answer for that is the late antler less season (in conjunction with the bonus anter less program). Realistically, we won't go back to giving does a pass. And I highly doubt you'll see statewide 2 buck limits again. What we will see (IMHO), is a common sense approach somewhere in the middle. Keep the herd numbers in check with appropriate doe harvests, and (hopefully) back off that doe harvest in areas hit hard by over hunting and EHD. I guess we'll see as the future unfolds.

I am old enough (64) to remember when the yearly harvest of Deer in Indiana was around 5,000. Most of the harvest came from special hunts in places like Crane, and very few were harvested on private or public lands. If you were lucky enough to be draw a permit, to hunt these special hunts; you'd have a decent chance of harvesting one Deer. I've been hunting Deer since 1972 and harvested my first Deer, a Doe at Crane, on December 17, 1977. Didn't have much hunting success on private or public lands in Indiana, before the 1990's, in which I've tagged out each season after 1990, in both Indiana & Kentucky.

Guys,
Once again I need to step in and tell you all to debate the subject ONLY but leave out any name calling. I don't like to do that and I would think since we are all adults lets do a little self moderation of your posts. reread it before you hit the send button. I don't think you want me to do it for you as I wont do it too many before other action will be taken..

Surveys are possibly the most valuable data-gathering tools available to wildlife policy-makers. This survey Interesting but I think the real percent of meat hunters is higher given the hunters polled had to be Outdoor Life subscribers. Most meat hunters don’t subscribe to an outdoors mag.
