I'll be checking this thread later this morning to see pic's of that buck. So how much sleep did you get last night! LOL, I just woke up after 1 hour of sleep. I tried too, but there was no way.

Man John I have been keeping up with what you have been doing, and now I can't wait to see the pictures. I am glad that it was a big buck that walked in front of you first. Hi elmo, Yes, we're on the same team. I was hoping to contribute somehow. When I saw this guy two nights in a row, I thought that this was the one I wanted no matter how big or small. His body looked big from across the bottom, but I really didn't care as long as it wasn't little ugly. I'd made up my mind that I was shooting the first one that I saw unless it was little ugly. LOL

Mark the blood trail often. Then, if you lose it for a while (which often happens) you can look back at the trail and get an idea where the buck seems to be trying to go. Go SLOW! If you absolutely lose the trail, try to think like a wounded deer. Study the terrain. Where would you go? What path would you take? Is there water nearby? If you get discouraged or are at a loss, definitely seek help from an experienced tracker. My guess is you'll find more than a few right here! Keep us posted! Yes Met, I got lost in the woods last night trying to think like a deer. LOL I saw another creek that looked interesting that I hadn't seen before, then I forgot how I had gotten there even when I followed it back out. Things look so differently at night and I got turned around. I went from looking for the deer to looking how to get out of there. Funny thing is that my wife text me back after I shot it and told me to not get lost. I thought, "How can I get lost in this woods?" That toilet paper works good!

Jon, I sent you a PM. If you need someone there with tracking experience I will make myself available. Hooter Thank you. I'll let you know. I guess he could be anywhere. I marked my hit spot, and then went around the fence. I thought about climbing it, but then had a second thought after thinking what that barbed wire could do to me. On the other side of the fence, I have 4 spots marked with TP and my bolt stuck in the ground. I couldn't tell where he went after that. I think he turned, but not sure which way yet. Thirty minutes until sunrise, but it still looks very dark here.

Wow, Mr Snow, you have us all pumped up. I'm so excited for you and look forward to seeing that picture of you holding that buck. Hopefully he's not to far from where you shot him and it's a quick recovery. The great thing is, you had a pass through shot, which is a big plus. Had I lived closer, I would have been more than willing to help you track this deer. And it looks like you have some help, from right there in the area. What a great group of folks we have here. I will be checking back often, to see the end of the success story.

I see I'm a little late getting on here to give Jon some advice as he is already out there looking. My advice would be just like above.. Take your time. Big bucks sometimes don't die easily. If push comes to shove maybe we can get Ruby dog up there.. My prayer on this is a quick and humane death and an EASY recovery... Go get him Jon....

I called Jon's cell phone and it went to his voice mail. He could be in an area with sparse coverage?
I gave him Meta's advice and told him to not be bashful and call one of you that are in his area that volunteered to help. Two sets of eyes are better than one and usually the second set of eyes does a better job than the shooter's eyes... My son found most of the blood on my deer...
Good luck Jon...bring him home...

Two sets of eyes are better than one and usually the second set of eyes does a better job than the shooter's eyes... Very, very true! The shooter is usually the first to get frustrated and that leads to rushing, getting negative, and getting sloppy. Again, don't ask me how I know.
