Still looking...finally found a couple spots where about 2oz of blood poured out each spot and then it just stops. Not giving up but it's not looking good.

1st time out tonight, shot a doe 1st time using a crossbow. Used a ragebroad head and my oh my, did it open her up. In and out within an hour. Turkeys were everywhere, just not close enough. She is skinned and hanging in barn. CheckIN is a wonderful thing.

After looking the whole day, I was unable to locate my doe. I believe a couple of reasons made her hard to find. These urban areas are surrounded by tricky trails to woods that branch to more woods and all going into other peoples private properties. I had pools of blood that trailed from the path she traveled into an open field where the blood trail stopped. After I shot her I waited 30 minutes then left to come back an hour later...after coming back some guys had mowed the field where her blood trail went to so her traces were covered. Lastly, the final signs of her direction of travel showed she may have crossed the highway into more woods. I would literally have to walk through tons of people's property to track her. I gave it all I had today and covered all the surrounding property within 300 yards in every direction...just feeling beat now. Better luck next time I suppose

Not able to give reports "from the stand" with an "antique" cell phone so the morning after is hopefully ok. I had a good night compared to the previous 5 times out. A......THE BEANS are picked on the adjoining property and the owner is a LONG time friend who said (after the hunt....puff, pant) I could drive back through the field (believe me MOST WONT HERE. I got one wont let me park on "HIS" side of the road). Anyhow.....might have to "go up" in a stand here soon if "luck" don't change. Last night's hunt is a fairly good indication of how things can go on the ground (leaning up against a tree where a 10 inch log fell against it, no leaves or limbs). I've shot 3?? maybe 4 from this same spot and felt my odds were good there with the SE wind. MAIN bedroom is straight north and they come out and filter around heading towards the corn and picked beans...or so I thought they would. LOL! About 6:15 I kept hearing a very light rustling in the leaves occasionally but it never lasted long. I looked, and I looked and I listened for about 15 minutes. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement moving horizontally (always an attention getter!) and slowly turned my head to find a coyote standing out in the WIDE open with nothing between me and him but a couple 2 foot started trees, and straight up wind, not 20 yards away. This is off to my RIGHT, the absolutely WORST place for a ground hunter with a bow! I had to pick up my bow, turn 90 degrees (as he looked away) before even considering a shot. I normally wouldn't worry too much about coyotes be in recent years we are finding more and more evidence of fawn kills around coyote dens in the spring. Anywho....I get turned and he starts trotting straight north. As he passed behind a 12 inch tree I yanked er back. Ever try to "squeak" with your lips with a kisser button in your mouth? ..arghh. Finally, after another 10 yards out or so and me feeling like I was loud enough to wake the dead, the coyote stops for a fleeting second. I shot and the After Burn S nock lit right up (first year using lighted nocks and still not expecting it) heading for the coyotes shoulder. It was then standing in weeds reaching his brisket and the arrow looked dead on till about 5 yards to go........then dropped to RIGHT were the coyote and grass met. Doing a "Scooby Do" up in the air, legs flailing he tore North and the arrow snicked off something and made a hop out into the woods. No sound from Mr Or Mrs Coyote so I assumed I had.. m mm mmm ......uh, didn't hit it and after dark the lack of evidence on the arrow and ground confirmed such......but the story doesn't end here........IT GETS WORSE. HA! 20 minutes to go, and hot dang is it getting D A R K in this woods. Wind has all but died, ye old "hear a pin drop" night that I HATE so badly. Scanning the creek bottom while froze to the tree at the shoulder, again I catch a horizontal movement off to my RIGHT again (DING DANG IT!). I turn my head to see 3 does coming STRAIGHT at me and 30 yards off. At one time or another ONE of them had their head up appearing to look my way but it's so dark now I can hardly tell. The lead doe comes in and starts feeding maybe 18 yards from me perfectly broadside.....but doe 2, she isn't liking the odd lump on this tree in front of her and WILL NOT turn her head. So now I am a bundle of nerves, bow was successfully gotten to 3/4 position till nailed and I've been holding it there for about 18 years (it seemed) and time is running out. "GO FOR BROKE" I thought.....I've got like 5 minutes left of shooting time. You know how "well" that worked out! SLOWLY I drew back the bow, and about 2 inches short of "anchor".......*****SNORT!!!!!****** Crash, crash crash! Dagnabit anyway..........but I GOT TO SEE DEER IN RANGE so a GREAT hunt, but no venison hanging just yet. God Bless PS.....YES, Steve46511 is going BACK tonight, WITH SOME KIND OF NET for the EAST side.

Jon Snow.....I did like using the crossbow. However, its bigger, heavier and more awkward than a bow. Just gonna take some time to adjust. I sat on the ground with shootin sticks for a rest. Just glad I had the crossbow up and resting in the sticks when she walked out at 10 yrd. Complete pass through. She fell about 50 yds from where I shot her.

I went last night, but didn't see a thing, and didn't hear much either. It was very quiet. This morning, I was in the blind at 5:45, but started feeling bad and came home at 8:30.
With just small woods, I don't know where they're bedding or where they're feeding now. I don't see them in the fields when in transit. I'm starting to think that the only reason I got photos of them was because I was feeding them. Now that the food is gone, they are too. I'll get a food plot next year ...I hope.

Deer can't eat the food if they are not in the woods. . . Stick with it Jon. You may just have to pattern them a little better and figure out where they are traveling. It is still really early and the woods are thick with leaves. You will be surprised how much more you will be able to see later in the season! Good luck!!

Nice evening. I'm in a stand about 200 yards from where the buck pic was at and in the direction that I think he came from. 25 yards downwind from a red oak
Good. Luck all

Their pattern did change when I stopped feeding them. I was getting photos just about everyday, and could sit and watch them go by. Now, not even a photo. I guess 10 days before hunting season is enough for them to go somewhere else. I still think it sucks though. Some say it's shooting when they are baited. Yes, but it's shooting when they're in a food plot. I bet that I spent more money feeding them all summer than a fall food plot will cost me. Hey, if they stop to eat, they'll get hit with a good kill shot. Some can't plant food plots, but I'll sure try next year. I do like sitting in my tree stand, but after a few days of looking at tree bark... I quit shooting the squirrels a week ago, but get tempted when I get bored.

Finally got out this morning for the first time all year. Was kinda bummed that my big oaks hunt was canceled. It really turned out good had an 8 pt and 4 point come in. Stuck the 8 he went about 40 yards. Nothing big but it will fill the freezer up. Turned out to be a great day after all

Congrats Canesfan! Wow it's a gorgeous morning to be in the woods. I'm sitting in my shooting house on my property in Dearborn County. Barely a whisper of a breeze. I have heard a couple turkey's gobble, that's a nice fall bonus! Nuts are falling, squirrels are everywhere! I'd like to have some deer walk by, but even if they don't, this is the place to be! Wife's in a tree stand a couple hundred yards away.
