Anybody else ever hunt them in Dec. with dogs,it's a blast ? Haven't hunted them with dogs since I was a kid. Don't have the time to work with the dogs properly any more. December I am generally trying to find some winter sauger.

Haven't fished for them,'course I don't know where there are any either ,and I don't winter fish either.I do my fishing in the warmer weather when there's no hunting seasons .

I try to split my time up with fishing. I hunt a small woods so i tend to give it a week break 2 or 3 times a season and supplement it with sauger and catfishing

It is almost here. I have had a decent crow season but I'll be perfectly honest I am ready for the main seasons to start. Does anyone have generalized guidance info on public property to go squirrel hunting on? I'm not asking for directions to your honey hole but would appreciate a point on the correct vector. I have private spots but I really do not want to work those that often I reserve them for deer and late season coyote hunting. I know that many guys will stop hunting thre deer spots about a month before Oct.1st yet I am skiddish of touching the locations anywhere after mid august

Not picking on anybody for doing so, but I've been deer hunting for 35 yrs. I've shot right around 100 deer. I think worrying about hunting deer spots for other game, such as squirrels, is highly over rated. Deer, at least in my neck of the woods are used to human activity. In my experience, a few squirrel hunts in your deer woods isn't going to hurt a thing. Besides, you may not, but can you be 100% guarranteed that somebody else hasn't been in there? But, to each his own.....

I don't have enough deer seasons under my belt to decide one way or the other if disturbing your deer spots for a few squirrel hunts is a good or bad idea. I do know that veterans have differing opinions on the topic. I do believe that my entry to certain areas does alter the patterns of the resident coyotes that I target for population control hunts. Yet on the same hand there are a few coyotes that have become educated due prior mistakes and put that together with routine hunting pressure have turned them into a decent challenge to hunt no matter what. Therefore me going in and hunting squirrells isnt going to hurt the hunting for those wily buggers. There going to wily sneaky buggers no matter what. Even with private property to hunt squirrels on I'd still like to be pointed toward a decent public squirrel hunting spot or two. I prefer the change of scenary and the excuse to scout for other seasons.

Not sure where you're at, but Hoosier National Forest and Deam Wilderness in Lawrence County has enough area to explore for 100 squirrel seasons.

Went for a walk to scout a squirrel woods and seen a nice 8 pointer and jumped a hen turkey with chicks too small to fly. I wonder if her first clutch was broken up.

But, to each his own..... Maddog I agree completely. From my fifty years of experience, hunting deer spots for other game doesn't hurt a thing, and may even help come deer season. It lets the deer hear you, see you, and smell you. They get used to your presence. I've had bucks walk right up to me in areas with extremely heavy squirrel hunter presence. Deer seem to spot more when faced with the unfamiliar. Either way, what fun is deer hunting if it's easy?

Nice looking rig m4. Borrowing my son's Model 60 I guess.
Been trying to swap some stuff for a 22 but this is cheaper yet LOL.
Ive got 3 good woods and zero hunters but me and a bud and he don't go but 2 times....and don't like squirrel. I get em. Works for ME!
Been riding the bicycle (doctor's orders to do or die stuff. ugh) and go past one of the woods regular. Should check in with local PD to see if they are going to have an "issue" with a 22 strapped to my back going through our little hick town, occasionally.....just to be nice.
Looking forward to a good squirrel year. Might not be able to deer hunt much but will. Squirrel I can "drag" out yet. Deer.....not so much plus deer hunters outnumber the deer it seems some days. Not so with squirrel.
Maybe not as efficient lb per lb compared to venison, still fun for me as an old slow fella.
Time in the woods and food for the table. As always.......WIN/WIN
God Bless Steve
