Alright so I went out today to do a little shed hunting and just get out in the woods since it was such a nice day out. While I was walking along I ended up finding 5 different tree stands all on our property and none of which are mine! 3 of them are literally right on the property line but they're facing our property so they are obliviously hunting our land. The other two were about 80 yards apart on our land. I also found a trail cam and crossbow bolt which I am assuming is from this past season. My question is what do I do about them?!? I have no clue who they are and I don't want legal problems for taking their stuff. I thought about taking the stands down and leaving a note with out information on it saying if they want their stuff back to give us a call and we will talk but I don't know if that is a good idea or not. What would you guys do? This isn't the first time we have had problems with trespassers either. I have just never found 5 stands in one walk through so I feel something needs to be done and needs to be done soon. Any suggestions?

You call your local CO and report the problems to him. You remove the stands that are on YOUR property and ask the CO to leave a note for the trespassers to call HIM if they want their stands returned. When the trespassers call the CO to get their stuff back, the CO meets with them and issues a summons (at your request) for hunting without consent of the landowner. Now the dirt bag trespassers know you mean business and will think twice next time.

So it is ok to remove the ones on our land? I remember seeing a post one time that even of they were on your property and you took them down then you could be held responsible for stealing or something of that nature? If not looks like it won't be too tough of a problem to handle after all

It is your land. I would be willing to bet that there are no names or addresses on the stands of the rightful owners? Therefore, you are simply removing abandoned property left on your land and holding it as collateral until the trespassers return to find the note from the CO. Now they can decide if they are gonna take their lumps with the CO to get their stands back or chalk it up as a loss and never put another stand on your land again.

Looks like you just got 2 new treestands and a trail cam. Congrats, I love when idiots hang treestands on my property. I leave a note to come and get them if they want them back. No one has ever stopped by. Call the CO. Take pics before you remove them to show they were on your property.

Happened to me one time... I just took a chain saw with me next time in, cut the tree down stand and all and left it there,, they got the point and as far as I am concerned any CO is welcome on my farm any time they don't need to ask their unannounced presence would be and is an asset

Yep as mentioned, get the law involved ASAP.. get them caught, prosecute them ... that usually dries it up, well for a while at least

Checked the cam and didn't have any pics of his face however it did have a pic of him holding another trail cam which means I need to get back to the woods and do some more looking Around to see if I can't find some more goodies.

Not sure I'd drop the stands on the property line. Ones that are definetely on you - by all means. I'd leave note Nd tell them where the stands are. It could be an honest mistake...

If anyone finds a illegally placed stand on their property that has a name on it have the CO call them. I grind my name and phone number on all my stands with a die grinder hoping to deter anyone from stealing them. Over the years I have had a couple stolen anyway, one of them being a nice Tree Lounge. I filed a police reports on both of them. I have hoped that some day someone would call and ask why my stand is on there property. It's just a chance, you could be doing a fellow hunt a favor.

If any part of the stand is on my side of the line I take em down, place a no tresspassing sign on the trees involved if they have been removed, re-mark the line with orange flagging tape if it has been removed. I take the stands down & put them on the other side of the line. I use my knife to make a special mark on the underside of the stand for repeat offenders. The stands are removed at that point.

contact your DNR officer in your area. Show him the stands on your property, then take them down leaving the note If the guy calls arrange a meeting and have the DNR with you when you meet him.
If it were me I'd probably give him his stands back if he was dumb enough to admit in front of the officer they were his. Then he'd get written a ticket I believe, or at least a warning ?

Better recheck your property lines before taking any stands, taking a stand that is not on your property is a class d felony........ !
