Hello, Had an interesting experience this morning. I had the great opportunity to shoot an 8 point buck that was 30 yards from my treestand. After the shot, he ran about 50 yards and piled up after doing a couple of donuts. As I turned him over to check the wounds, I found that the bullet did not exit the other side. It was a 295gr Power Belt hollow point that completely fragged into pieces upon hitting the deer. The point of entry immediately hit one of his larger front ribs and all the energy went into mushrooming the bullet and turning his lungs and heart into jello. This is the first time I have used the PB and I will be using them again.

Bullets that blow up and dont penetrate can and do lead to lost deer because a one lung deer can go a long way. There are better choices for bullets for deer hunting than hollow points that blow up. Look at soft points, conicals or all copper bullets. h.h.

Had the same thing happen the first and last time I used Powerbelts years ago. Like HH said look for a better bullet.

You do know its not a good thing for a power belt to completely frag right? My buddy used them once and the result was less than horrible. We all use Hornady SST's now.

Don't know why you all keep saying that PB's aren't any good. That's all I've used in my in-lines for years and have been more than happy with results. Have never had one fragment (until this year and I'll explain), have always had two holes with plenty of blood trail but have never needed the trail since the deer have never gone more than maybe 40 yards....but then we don't take hare-brained shots either I'm using the 348 gr though and prefer the heavier round. The buck my daughter took this year was shot directly on the lower end of the shoulder blade, which thoroughly disintegrated the bone down to the upper "forearm". The bullet then passe on through, taking out both lungs and hitting the top of the forearm on the other side where it again totally disintegrated the bone. For once I had no exit hole but the bullet remained intact and the four "petals" from the mushroom were recovered from around many bone fragments. I've processed many deer and know that where she hit this deer is probably one of the toughest bone structures in the chest cavity area so I'm impressed that the bullet did the entry damage it did, remained intact through the chest cavity and then finally went into five pieces when hit the major forearm bone on what would have been the exit side. I've still got four packages of Hornady FBP's that if someone wants to pay shipping for they can have! I will NOT take the breechplug out of my smoke pole just to able to load these rounds!!

I wont even shoot a PB for target practice. Had unbelievably terrible results with them. Cost me my biggest buck and a doe in one season.

Powerbelts suck. Two holes are rare if ever.

Powerbelts suck. Two holes are rare if ever. Never really considered my shots as being "rare"....I've got my personal observations and have been eating lots of venison.

We've got a Booner laying dead on the youth hunt property that was hit with a PB in rhe boiler room. Last seen dragging the entrance side front shoulder and barfing blood out the nose. Wasnt recovered even with the aid of a very experienced tracking dog. No doubt the deer died, but when or how many days after the shot. That hunter will never shoot PBs again...ever. evidence points to the bullet blowing up on the in side shoulder and maybe getting damage to one lung. Big body deer dont need bullets that wont get pass throughs and that dont fragment.

I have had some rifles shoot the PB extremely well and some not!!! I personally like the power belt but actually wish they would mushroom more than they do. I have shot several bear with them as well my 13 year old son has shot three bear with them. Have never lost one yet but my sons bear last season was shot straight on in the chest at 20 yards and we recovered the bullet just under the hide next to the arshole, the bullet looked almost like it did when we loaded it in the gun?

I can understand being upset over losing a deer. My daughter lost her first deer (a doe-that was hit in the "boiler room"...yes we found it the next day, no blood trail makes tracking very difficult in heavy brush) using a sabot in my shotgun-I will never again use them! ...in the meantime I have these useless Hornady's that nobody seems to want

Throw them away, I got plenty of Hornadys. Dont need anymore. I get it now-Hornadys' are just trash ;D Yes I'm being facetious but there's just something about using the term "we all" that just begs to be played with....it's one the first things that debaters are taught. Heck it's been MANY decades since being I was a freshman in high school and I still remember that.

I dont see how nibody wantinh your bullets means that the PBs make good hunting bullets. Be happy youve had good luck with the PBs so far. Id hold on to the other bullets for the future, youll never know when youll need them.
