I have heard that several hundred Deer were found dead from EHD during the past few months on Camp Atterbury.
Do any of you know if this is true ?
I am thinking about coming up to Camp Atterbury in late November for the VIP Hunt.

I haven't heard anything about this and I live about 2 minutes from the camp and know several people who work in there.

I guess one of the guys who works at Range Control in Camp Atterbury said that they have found hundreds of Deer dead from Blue Tongue. Most of the dead deer found around the range get that way from repeated rapid onset lead poisoning.......

I have heard some people say that close to 300 dead Deer have been found on Camp Atterbury this Summer and Fall. They are saying the Deer died from Blue Tongue. Is this the same guy who told you there was antler restrictions at Atterbury? Seriously, where do you come up with all this BS? h.h.

I hunted there anytime I wanted for many years.
There are Point Restrictions for the VIP Hunt, not sure about the civilian state drawn hunts.
I don't hunt the state draw hunts, I hunt with the Military on the VIP Hunt which is before the state draw hunts.
On another Indiana Forum, there is a guy who is in the military at Camp Atterbury. He goes by the name "Alphatango" on that IN Forum. He Bow hunts there anytime he wants. He said and posted on that forum that he spoke with range control and they said hundreds of Dead Deer have been found.
The Thread was called " Deer Population" this is where this man who is in the military at Camp Atterbury talked about the hundreds of dead deer that have been found.

When I first heard about the antler restriction at atterbury I thought it was bogus as well. . . I have since seen the paperwork with my own eyes and the antler restriction is true. I am not sure if it will be in place for the draw hunt, but as far military personnel hunting on base during season, the antler restriction is true

You are correct. I know for the VIP Hunt that I hunt on every year, there are Point Restrictions. A buck must have at least 4 points on one side of its rack in order to be legal to harvest. When I first heard about the antler restriction at atterbury I thought it was bogus as well. . . I have since seen the paperwork with my own eyes and the antler restriction is true. I am not sure if it will be in place for the draw hunt, but as far military personnel hunting on base during season, the antler restriction is true

My neighbor does maintenance on the range; I will talk to him next time I see him to see if he knows anything about this.

He's had family over since Friday and I'm not going to bother him right now. I'll ask him eventually.

I have several military guys from Atterburry that come into my pawn shop on a regular basis.
Military personel can bow hunt any day they want on the military side and are allowed to take one guest but must stay whithin reasonable distance of their guest.
Yes, they have imposed antler restrictions on these hunts, I am not sure if the restrictions include the draw hunts or not.

I hunt Fort Campbell a lot. Fort Campbell KY has a Gun Season that is nearly 3 months long. The base sets its own seasons, and there are no drawings the entire base is open to public hunting in most areas.
I have hunted Camp Atterbury numerous times.
I hope their was not any EHD this year, I may come up and hunt the VIP Hunt again so I hope the Deer numbers are good.
If I don't hunt Camp Atterbury this year, I will go to Fort Campbell instead it's close to where I live.
Good Luck this season.

I am thinking about coming up to Camp Atterbury in late November for the VIP Hunt. Actually EHD is not an early summer late spring illness it develops later in the summer about right now is when it starts to hit through Sept..Then after the first frost or when /if the late summer/fall rain comes it ends . Rumors spread faster than EHD and is not very accurate
