Well I have vacation planned for Nov 2-15 to bow hunt here and gun hunt opening weekend in KY. Got a call last night to come down for the KY muzzleloader season this weekend but I'm scheduled to work Fri-Sun this weekend. Basically my only option is to reschedule 2 days but I then have to work Nov 10-11 in the middle of my vaca. I would also not be able to miss work opening day of firearms here in Indiana if I went this weekend but I'm not too concerned about that.
What would you do? Give up 2 possibly great days of hunting closer to the rut and hunt the early muzzleloader Or Skip the muzzleloader season and have 2 straight weeks to bowhunt in Nov?

Classic no help answer.... and that is, it depends. What's the action look like in KY? If your contact in KY is telling you he's seen alot of activity and is relatively confident you guys would have a good hunt, I'd go. BUT if it's going just for the sake of it being MZ season, i'd forego the MZ invite and keep with your previously made plans to hunt through the rut. No body wants to break vacation time to go back to work... especially with deer on the brain.

Depends intirely on "how good" your spots are, especially the Ky. tract. If it's good quality and has acorns, it could be something you don't want to miss.
....and then there are sick days.

The KY farm is better than anything I have here in Indiana. My uncle owns 150ac that he has just for deer and turkey hunting. Mostly woods with a 20ac bean field, a 2-3ac food plot, year round corn and very little pressure. His and the neighbors 100+ac do not get bowhunted and only see occasional weekend gun hunting. I went down for the first time last gun season and would be safe to say I saw more deer(def more bucks) than I saw in Indiana all year and my uncle killed a nice 10pt. The place doesn't have the best genetics but there are pretty good deer in the area, including a 190+ that the neighbor had on cam last year.
I'm leaning pretty heavily towards going down there. With my schedule and vacation days I'm still off work more days this month and next than I'm working so surely missing those 2 days in Nov won't ruin my season. Hope not anyways.
Thought I'd also add that hunting down there is more of a getaway for a couple days to hunt with my uncle, not a trophy hunt. I don't expect to shoot anything since I won't shoot a doe down there and I'd only shoot a buck that he says is a shooter based on the trail cam pics. It's basically a good time watching deer and spending a little time with family.

There you go. Family is more important than deer, and you didn't need advice to figure this out.
Rock on man. Hanging with the uncle is cool. That's when I get to hang with my nephew too. Hunting season. He lives 1 mile from me... but I still don't see him much.

Had a great hunt in Ky this weekend. Saturday morning was a little slow but that afternoon I sat over a field that had about 2ac of oats in it and the deer loved them. Saw 7 different bucks and I don't know how many does. Around 5pm a big 3.5yo 5pt came out into the field and while checking him out in the scope another buck came out of the woods behind him. I got a little excited and decided to take him. The shot was 126yds and when the smoke cleared none of the deer had moved. When I realized I missed I reloaded the TC and got on him again. I held a little high with the second shot and he bolted out of the field with the 5pt. I stayed in the blind waiting for the few deer to leave but the just kept coming. I spent the next hour and a half watching close to 20 deer with 2 of them being larger bucks than what I had shot. It was quite the show with the bucks all taking turns sparring with each other while they fed. Finally just before dark most deer had left the field so I went to check for blood. Found a small tuft of hair at the shot but we couldn't get on any blood and I had no idea which way he went with all the smoke from the muzz. We decided to back out and come back this morning. The buck only made it about 50yds but never bled. Shoulda held out as this was a younger deer and there were definately bigger deer in the area but like I said I got a little excited I'm happy with the buck though, here he is

Just the opposite for me. Sat am saw 5, one at some distance in the brush; thought I saw antler, not sure though. The next 3 were a doe being chased by 2 little bucks at 35-40yds. Trailing them was a doe that wasn't running and she gave me a shot so I took her. Didn't see the first one till almost 10am our time. Saw 1 at quitting time Sat. night; couldn't tell what it was. Sun was hot and saw nothing. I dropped the doe off at the processors around noon their time on Sat. - said it was the first one to come in of the day and that their numbers are way down. Sorry all I got was a truck pic:

I was in Shelbyville KY all weekend, Saw a decent 8 point but hunting rules at this farm are outside the ears or he walks. Break the rule and don't get invited back so he walked.
Had a Great time
