Question for all you "traditionalists" using real black powder. Where do you buy your black powder? I went to the Goex distributor website and the only place in the state is Deer Creek Products in Waldron. I also looked into the online distributors (Maine Powder House, Track of the Wolf), but you have to buy in bulk and pay extra shipping fees. Thanks in advance.

Good question and it might become a better question if the "primitive muzzleloader" season gets passed as first suggested.. Side hammer, black powder, no scopes and round patched balls only...

Woody, are you sure a black powder substitute would not be allowed in the proposed season?

Woody, are you sure a black powder substitute would not be allowed in the proposed season? Pretty sure it is limited to black powder only in the proposed season. I already shoot patch and ball from my .54 cal Hawkin, so I figured I might as well go "all the way" and switch from Triple7 to black powder.

Yes, just checked it. Crazy, when you can hardly buy the stuff anymore. Shipping prices are crazy for BP, and there are special storage requirements for stores, making a lot of them not wanting to carry it.

Woody, are you sure a black powder substitute would not be allowed in the proposed season? Original suggestion was black only.. During GotInput I suggested that the substitutes be allowed since pure black is hard to come by. I also suggested that conicals be allowed as they are certainly "primitive' too.

That and many new guns, including the traditional styled ones, wont shoot a round ball well. I think simply saying "no sabots" would be good enough.

Gander Mt in Ft. Wayne has it. www.nmlra.org/ Check out Field Reps and Clubs in your area. They should be able to tell you where to buy locally. Another alternative is to get a group together and order out some and split it up. The laws on selling BP need to be changed. Sellers need a special licen$$e to sell and storage is a PITA.
