Thanks K.L, we rented a place with a slip so I wouldn't have to keep loading the boat every day.My wife likes to sleep in and I'm an early riser,so I like to get up and fish for a few hours before she joins me.I will give Barkley a try at some point during the week.Have you fished KL around this area?Any tips on where to start to locate bass? thanks

Bass fishing is AWESOME now if you know where to find them. I fished with Dave Stewart yesterday for 5 hours. Fished 5 hours and put 17 keepers in the boat. Best 5 went 24 pounds. Fished one spot and never moved. I was hoping for 4 limits but it got too hot and water was calm. Catching them is easy if you know where the shad are. Everthing came off a Charmer Timber Pup on a C-rig. Fished very S-L-O-W. All fish were holding in 7 FOW on top of a ledge that dropped off to 25 feet. Did I mention fish SLOW? We did see a lot of dead fish floating. They said the oxygen levels were at record lows and record fish kills could happen. If you're staying in Grand Rivers make sure you eat at Patti's and get the pork chop. Oh, and I-24 west bound was closed at Eddyville for construction. All traffic was detoured about 10 miles thru the town. If you got an extra $250 hire a guide like Dave Stewart or Randy Khuens. You will end up with a awesome fishing trip. I'm trying to put plans together for a August trip now. Been going down about once a month. Enjoy and have a great time.

If you have decent electronics and a GPS lake map you'll make finding fish much easier. I just did some googling looking at maps. The picture below has a classic style summer style ledge I would investigate if I knew where it was. lol If you look at the number 342 under the letter "c' in "section" that is a ledge and is in the form of a point. Closer the contour lines are the steeper the drop off. If on the top of that has some stumps and mussle beds that could be a hot spot. Bass have the security of the deeper water but feed on the upper shallow part. Keep the boat in deep water and cast shallow fishing the bait all the bait until it's under you.

well my electronics are not much younger than my boat!lol I'm going to spend some time online looking at KL maps in the next few days. It will make it easier now that I know what to look for.I will pinpoint a few areas and fish them hard(and slow).I have a hand held gps I use to mark my stand locations,I will bring it along and mark areas that are holding fish. Thanks for the info!

Are you going to fish with a guide next month ? And where will you be staying, at Kenlake ? They just finished paving Highway 68 from Aurora, KY up to Draffenville, near the Fishermans Headquarters. I'll be back 8/18-8/21. No guide....but I am coming down again at the end of September and taking Dave's Ledge Teaching Class and staying at the Moor's during both visits. Earlier this week they were still working on HWY 68 paving. Road was tore up in Draffenville on Monday where you turn to go to the Moor's. Only sections of 68 were re-paved, not the entire stretch. Aurora BBQ makes some good pulled pork. If things go as planned I hope to have a second home down there in two years.

5 fish 24lbs wow thats some great fish HH! What does Dave charge for his class? Does $250 get you a full or half day? Mark, $250 gets you a 5 hour trip. To be honest I was ready to be done after 5 hours (11AM). It was already in the mid 90's and my thumb was bleeding LOL . For $75 more ($325) he will take you for 8 hours. $325 is the cost of the class and you can split that with one other guy. I'm going down with a friend of mine. 6 hours of it is classroom reading maps, understanding ledges and what makes some ledges better than others. Also understanding shad and their seasonal migration. Then 3 hours of it is on the water. There you learn to locate the ledges, learn how to position on them and locate bait fish. All this knowledge can be used on any man made reservoir/lake.

Does current enter into the fish catching equation at all on the ledges?

They say current can play a big role on getting the fish actively feeding. No current during this day and didn’t seem to matter. Dave is very knowledgable. He has no problems with you saving the coordinates from the day either.

I wouldn't live down there until retirement and thats 11 years away. For now I'd be just a place to use during the summer. Likely in Gilbertsville.

He does a lot of repeat business. 90% of his trips are people prepping for tournments that don't have time to practice. Everything from club people to FLW and Elite touring Pro's.

Did anyone see that box looking thing on the side of the road on the WK on the way back through evansville? It looked like some sort of animal trap??? not sure on that one, I went out on a ledge on Friday morning we cought about a dozen no real size to them. Didn't go on Saturday, I had my wife and she really doesn't like that kind of fishing she likes cove fishing.
